I gave it five stars even though it arrived with a fairly significant manufacturing flaw. The reason is because of the company's customer service response. Once assembled it worked amazing well but I noticed a slight wobble in the drive flywheel. I contacted the company and they suggested a number of fixes (as we both wanted to avoid the hassle of returning this behemoth) none of which solved the problem. They immediately refunded a significant portion of the price and sent a replacement unit. No company can guarantee never having a problem but how they respond to it is the measure by which it should be judged. I was duly impressed. The unit is well made with heavy steel, strong weld points and works really well. I was able to split rounds that went beyond the size indicated and did so in 1/4 the time it usually takes. It has a protective circuit w/ reset button that prevents the motor from frying. I normally use a vertical, gas powered splitter. And if I need to split those monster rounds, that would be my go to but for 95% of the rounds I'm willing and able to pick up, this thing does the trick- 2 sec cycle time (literally) and virtually no noise or fumes. Usage tip: When engaging, grip the handle firmly and pull quickly and confidently. The mechanism works like a transmission without a clutch :-) Also, be sure to cut your rounds straight. Angled cuts will result in the round shooting off to the side. Stand to the rear of the round. This is common to all horizontal splitters not just this one so keep that in mind. I'm very happy with the splitter and would highly recommend both the product and especially the company.

You have to pull hard to get it to do it's thing or there is just a gear grinding noise. There is a large clunk when you pull the lever that slams up through your hand. Concerned that this design will wear fast or break. I may try the green one to see if they have solved this issue and sell the one that is more fun to use. Big flywheels are great but probably not 9 tons worth of splitting. This unit wouldn't go through a piece of oak I had. My other splitter went through it like butter. The cycle time should be slightly reduced to get full power out of the big flywheels. It is crazy fast, even for a kinetic splitter. Sturdy.
