This is a great tool! The price is amazing. So much so, that I was shocked at how well it was made and how well it worked. I'm doing the head on my 2001 Nissan Frontier and could npt find a suitable tool for less than $40. This one is perfect for the application, for less than half that price! I decided to give this 5 stars not because it is of stellar qualilty. It is pretty good quality for sure, Ive already used it...it worked exactly as intended. I am using this for a larger motorcycle engine. This engine has stock springs, and though the compressor held its integrity, i could see where if used with stronger aftermarket springs, it may have trouble not bending. I ended up giving this 5 stars because of its quality and price. Its affordability definitely brings it up a notch. Buying something like this at the autoparts store would be far more expensive. So, definitely worth it for the price and good quality too. Note, if you were to need to use this for heavy springs, it would be easy to reinforce it.

Plan to first spend some time and bring it into operating conditions. Mine came with one of the arm threads full of paint so had to use a tap to clean it up. The screws were having some light rust so washing, thread chasing, and oiling was in order. After all this the tool performed as expected. I work on a Volvo white block engine (BT5254T4) and the arm is plenty long. There was no issue with bending. The springs were easy to compress. I used the 23mm adapter. Bottom line: this is a home mechanic tool to use once in a while. It get's the job done relatively easy. This is NOT a pro tool! If you run a shop or do this kind of work often for your friends or hobby you should look for something more "pro" that easily clamps into place and securely stays there without fiddling or you paying much attention once you set it. For the price this is very good value, assuming that you have the necessary tools and knowhow on how to fix it. On the other hand you should have no business on buying it if you don't :)

Rebuilt my '08 EJ25 Subaru engine and used the 8milelake Valve Spring Compressor with no issues. I did tie the handle on with some twine (square lashing knot) as it tended to fall out. Some have complained about bending the main frame during use but I didn't have that problem. The only time I felt the handle get hard to turn with enough force to bend the frame was when I didn't have the valve stem aligned with the spring washer during reassembly and things were jammed up. I did apply some assembly lube I had on hand to the threads and bearing surface of the spring adapter after the first valve and that made it smoother and easier to turn the handle. I also used a hard rubber mallet to tap/rap on the top of the valve springs before using the spring compressor to help loosen the spring retainers before disassembly (old mechanic's trick). The tool allowed me to save about $200 in labor (what I paid for the last set of heads to be lapped and install new valve wipers) but I still shelled out $100 to have the heads cleaned and decked flat (better safe than sorry with aluminum heads).

Several reviews on Amazon downgrade this tool and say it bends easily and is useless. I find that hard to believe! It is made with strong tubing and solidly welded. In my estimation, the frame would be impossible to bend if you are only using it on a valve spring, and using it properly. By properly, I mean all forces centered on the valve stem, and nothing binding. If you misalign the centers, its likely to skew things and might bend. Unfortunately I had to return it because none of the attachments fit my valve spring. The largest provided is 30mm. As you can see in the photo, I need something like a 32mm to properly seat on the valve. Being too small, it kept slipping off, which posed a safety concern. Even though it didn't work for me, during my attempts, I did learn several things. Before starting disassembly, rap each valve from the spring end with a rubber mallet. This helps break things loose. A little grease on the threads helps things go smoothly. As does a dab of grease on the screw end where it presses on the valve face. (keeps it from skating around) Take time to make certain all forces are centered on the valve stem. If you are turning the screw and nothing is moving, STOP. Something is binding.

The kit is ok, but the main piece is made of cheap steel and bent on me after doing one cylinder head. You definitely get what you pay for. This is an ok tool for a one time or sparse usage.

The wife’s timing belt broke! Luckily it only bent 2 valves with minimum damage. This thing worked perfect. No instructions but it’s pretty common sense how it works and I had the valves changed pretty quick. Nice add to the collection imo

Works for a GM 6.5L turbo diesel head. As others have stated some prep work needed before use. I ran the screws through each threaded end with a bit of oil to clear any paint and/or debris. The “C” bar did deform slightly when spring fully compressed. I was able to push down but this was actually helpful because it allowed me to seat the valve stem keepers in place. Good value for DIY. Not pro grade, but this is a fraction of the price of professional tool.
