  • Pure 80s Nostalgia That’s Actually Helps Workflow (Feels Just Like My Dad's Old Board) Pure 80s Nostalgia That’s Actually Helps Workflow (Feels Just Like My Dad's Old Board)
Color: N Edition
I bought this mostly for the retro novelty, but it has completely taken over as my main daily keyboard for work. The second I pulled it out of the box, it immediately made me think of my dad’s old computer keyboard from when I was a kid. It has that exact same heavy, solid, clunky presence on the desk, and typing on it actually feels almost the same as those old-school boards. 8BitDo completely nailed the nostalgia factor without making it feel like a cheap toy. If you're looking for a thorough breakdown of how this holds up for actual daily use, here is my honest experience after putting it through its paces. The Design & Nostalgia Factor: This colorway is perfect. The cream-colored chassis has that exact retro grey-beige tint from the 80s, and the glowing red "Power" light in the top corner is an awesome touch. The thick PBT keycaps have a slight dish to them that cradles your fingertips, and they have a nice matte texture that won't get oily or shiny over time. The physical knobs on the top left are incredibly satisfying to use. The volume knob has a nice tactile click to it, and the connection switch makes it effortless to bounce between my main desktop PC on the 2.4GHz wireless dongle and my secondary laptop over Bluetooth. The Ridiculous (but Useful) Super Buttons: The giant detached red B and A buttons look like a total gimmick, but they’ve become a hidden weapon for my daily workflow. They plug right into the back of the keyboard with a headphone-style jack. Using 8BitDo's software, I mapped them to my most repetitive hotkeys—one is set to Copy/Paste, and the other is my emergency "Save Document" button. They require a heavy, deliberate slam to click, so you don't have to worry about accidentally triggering them if you bump the module with your elbow. The Numpad Advantage: I’m really glad I went with this full-sized version instead of their smaller layout. Having the dedicated number pad makes a massive difference for spreadsheets, data entry, and mapping hotkeys in production software, all without losing any of that vintage aesthetic. As much as I love it, there are a few things you should consider before buying: No Backlighting: There is zero illumination here. If you work or game in a dark room, the dark red lettering on the grey keycaps is almost impossible to see. You will need a desk lamp. It is Massive: Between the full-size keyboard and the external giant buttons, this setup eats up a huge amount of desk real estate. If you have a small workspace, it's going to feel crowded quickly. Dust Magnet: The texture of the plastic looks great, but the dark grey keys and the crevices seem to attract dust and stray hairs pretty easily. Pros & Cons Pros: - Flawless retro aesthetic that feels exactly like vintage hardware - Solid, heavy build quality with zero deck flex - Physical knobs for volume and switching between PC/Laptop are incredibly convenient - Fully programmable macro buttons that actually speed up your workflow Cons: - No key backlighting at all - Massive desktop footprint - Needs regular dusting to stay looking clean Final Thoughts If you want a slim, quiet, invisible keyboard that blends into the background, this isn't it. But if you want a heavy-duty, incredibly satisfying board that brings back a ton of childhood memories while actually making your daily work a bit more fun, 8BitDo made something special here. It's a premium tool built with obvious care. ... show more

  • Solid pick
Color: N Edition
I like the action and the sound. The build is solid, even little parts like the legs are robust and a bit heavier than other keyboards. I don’t plan to carry it around, so no problem. All three connectivity types work as expected. 1 month in, no complaints. I like the style and colors. Overall good pick. ... show more

  • Great quality, sounds amazing, looks amazing and feels amazing.
Color: N Edition
Upon opening the box, I knew I was in for a treat. I haven't had a mechanical keyboard since the 90s. This one popped out at me, simply because I've bought one of their products in the past, and the stylish looks harkening back to the NES. It's a beautiful keyboard, and the sound and feel are simply divine to both my ears and fingers. I'm writing this over inflated review just as an excuse to type on it. It was simply plug and play with both the USB connection, and the 2.4GHz USB stick. I haven't tried the Bluetooth connectivity, but I'd imagine it would would pretty easily given my experience with their receivers I've bought in the past. I really enjoy the idea of the super buttons. For now I use them for start/stop for recording. Works out great, and the fact that you can scroll through different configurations will surely serve me in the future. It is fun to press the giant red buttons. Everything about this keyboard feels premium. From the weight of the device, the feel of the keys and the sound and feel of the switches beneath them. Sure there's no back light, but do you really need the RGB porn? Without a doubt, hands down, an amazing product from 8BitDo. Keep up the good work. ... show more

  • Order it now. Trust me. Order it now. Trust me.
Color: N Edition
Clicky and awesome in all the right ways. The look is perfect. The sound is amazing. Feels high quality not cheap or flimsy. I wouldn’t recommend it for an office setting as the sound will drive your neighbors crazy but at home it is a treat. For those of us who grew up on the old gaming/computer systems it scratches all the itches. The only question I have is do I order a second one so I have one for my gaming PC and one for my home office. ... show more

  • Fami!
Color: Fami Edition
This. I didnt expect this keyboard to be this good! So clicky, and very, very, very addictive sound: it feels like I can type 10x faster. Though definitely pretty loud if you stream or play horror games. Couple of downsides: 1. Terrible software. Absolutely terrible 2. Don't expect this to be working as real Japanese keyboard: it doesnt have required keys (jp keyboard have couple of additional keys) ... show more

  • Looks awesome and functions even better
Color: N Edition
I bought the compact version before they had the 10-key, and I loved it. The lack of the 10 key pad was my only gripe at the time. Now that it's added, this keyboard is everything I've wanted. It looks awesome and obviously has the retro NES vibe, but it also feels great and has the right amount of feedback/noise. I'm not a mechanical keyboard switch snob, so I'll leave the specifics to the professionals, but it feels great for the typing I do all day for work. I've always used a programmable key or Windows+L to lock my computer, but they've added a dedicated lock button which was a nice touch. The programmable buttons are great if you need them. It feels sturdy and just looks sleek. I also like that the secondary big programmable buttons hook directly to the keyboard so it doesn't require the use of any other USB ports on your computer/dock. I'll switch between Bluetooth and USB to go between work computers, but most of my use is hardwired USB. But both work great, and the included 2.4g dongle is nice if you don't want clutter but also lack Bluetooth on your device. The "analog" style volume knob is also great. I'd say this is easily a 9.8/10. This would be absolute perfection, in my opinion, if it included USB ports on the keyboard for quick access to flash drives and other peripherals if you're like me and don't have your computer in a spot that is easily accessible. ... show more

Love it, love the key clicks and size, the NES look is very cool and I do like it but I do wish they offered a black option. Great keyboard with alot of features for the money

  • Awesome appearance, types even better
Color: N Edition
The styling and colors of the keyboard is impeccable. The build quality feels very good, with absolutely no deck flex. The keyboard has some heft to it and doesn't move around on my desk at all. I've only used it on the USB cable so I have no opinion on the wireless function or battery life. The key action is AMAZING. It's just an absolute pleasure to type on. The weight and breakway point and click feel are perfect. Sound is minimal and won't annoy your cube neighbor. The keys are perfectly sculpted and feel great. I haven't even unboxed the big dual button thing yet so no comment on that either. Overall it's a superb value. It looks great, feels great, and gets comments from everyone who drops by my desk. My only complaint is they don't have a C64 version with a number pad yet! Get on that so I can buy another. ... show more
