  • Great wall safe for the price. Fit perfectly, easy install & setup.
Color: New Cream
This is a great wall safe. I bought it to store some of my handguns, and they both fit nicely. I receive the exact model pictured here, not sure how one review received the wrong one. Installation: When you open the box you will need to rip the plastic bag containing the manual key and instructions so you can use this key to open the door. There is a small Philips screw holding the cover on, you will need to remove this screw and cover to access the key hole (warning: when you remove the cover it also holds the number pad in place so it can fall off). Once the safe is opened you can put the batteries in and use the red button to program your code. I then measured dimensions of the protruding back end of the safe, and found the location of one stud where I wanted to mount it; I then cut the opening to match the dimensions from the backing of the safe. It fit in perfectly, and I was able to secure it to studs on both sides of the safe, I made my cut so that one side of the safe was flush against the stud, and I would estimate I had about a 1"-1.5" gap on the other side. The lag bolts that came with it are a bit small for the application, but with 3 on each side I felt it was secure enough. Uses: The unit stores both of my handguns easily a .40 and a .38, I have them standing up on the bottom shelf, as well as multiple spare magazines and boxes of bullets. The middle shelf can only be utilized to about ½ the depth since the battery and tumbler mechanism protrude out into that area. Conclusion: It is a great wall safe for security of smaller items, with a programmable coded entry. I am not sure if this is the best "Hidden" safe since the key pad and turn knob protrude out the front almost an inch, so if your picture has a flat back it will not sit flush against the wall, and be pushed out by the safe. We have ours mounted in a walk-in closet behind the hanging clothes so I am not concerned about that issue. Even with that minor issue for the price, and easy installation it is definitely worth it, and still a 5-star item. ... show more

  • A sturdy safe - easily installed
Color: New Cream
I got this safe and installed it fairly quickly - within two hours (and not working very hard on it). Note that a large portion of the center section of shelving is consumed by the lock mechanism, but I suppose that is what you want when you buy a wall safe. The idea being that it should be hidden behind a large picture. see Photos: 1. Using a stud finder, identify the location of two studs. The exact horizontal locations wont be precise, but don't worry about that. Just mark where you want the top and bottom inner lip of the safe to be (ie 2 horizontal lines - one on top and one on bottom). Locate the studs using a sheetrock saw, and draw your box on the wall starting from the top or bottom lines. Then saw right down against your studs until you reach one of the horizontal lines. 2. Remove any insulation that may be in the wall and be sure your cut lines are straight. 3. Place the safe into the hole you just cut and using a pencil, mark the studs through the screw holes in the side of the safe. Drill out the holes you just marked. Be sure to use a drill bit that is a tad smaller than the shank of the provided wood screws. This will make it a lot easier to screw in the screw. 4. Place the safe back in the hole and use a ratchet to fasten the wood screws. Photo 5 is a shot of the installed safe. Note the battery compartment door on the door. I did have a bit of trouble getting the batteries to initially stay put, but haven't had any problems since. The doors are spring loaded and will pop open when unlocked. Photo 6 is a shot of the combo reset button - be sure to use it as mentioned in the instructions. Not being one to fully read the instructions, I set the combo several times and it seemed like it was accepted by the safe. I reset it several times because it never would open - I was thinking I will have to return this darn thing until I broke down and fully read the instructions. The red button needs to be pressed. Now for the rating. I really do like the safe, but I believe it has a potentially dangerous flaw. If the batteries go dead, you can open the safe with the provided barrel shaped key (?) and I like that fact that is one of those round keys and should make it a bit less susceptible to lock picking attempts. Here's the problem - the key lock is hidden behind the combo key pad and is secured by a Philips head screw. I am thinking that the time I REALLY need to get into this safe ASAP, the batteries will be dead and I will be fumbling to find a screwdriver. Sure, I can keep one near the safe, but why should I have to? ... show more
