This safe will only keep the most honest of people honest, and probably prevent the “grab-and-dash” thief from easily running away with its contents. First, the claim that the safe is constructed of 1/8-inch steel is an out and out fabrication. The front face and door are 1/8-inch, but the remainder is constructed of steel at most half that thickness. Second, the door when closed and locked fits so sloppily in the front panel recess that the door can be sufficiently pulled away from the recess so that one could insert a large screw driver in the gap, and I suspect, then spring the door sufficiently to get a larger crowbar in there to deform the front door entirely and gain access to the contents. Mind you, I did not validate my speculation because I didn’t want to destroy it and void the possibility of returning it. Two pictures are provided to help with visualization of my claim. Third, when installed with the 1/4” lag bolts that are provided the lags are so lengthy that they protrude through 2x4 wall stud. There’s sufficient exposed length that I suppose a thief could get a pair of vise grips on the lags and partially unscrew them. This might compromise the secure mounting of the safe. If nothing else the exposed lag bolts provide a roadmap to a would be thief of how and where the mounting bolts are positioned. (Picture provided.) Larger diameter, shorter lags might provide better security. Fourth, on the positive side, there are quite a few questions about storing a laptop computer in the safe. Provided is a picture of my laptop, it is about 5/8 to 3/4-inch thick and there is sufficient room between the back panel of the safe and the back of the locking mechanism box for the laptop. The lower shelf has also been removed. Prior to purchasing the safe, I was concerned that the shelf mounting bracket might be welded to the back of the safe, thereby reducing the storage gap. In retrospect that concern was illogical; there is a bracket for each of the two shelves welded to each side of the safe. I do have a concern over the small screws that secure the lock mechanism box to the front panel. They might provide a means to scratch or otherwise mar any stored items (e.g. a laptop). Again a picture is provided. Rather than cap head screws, using countersunk flathead screws in the safe’s manufacture might alleviate this hazard. Finally, the safe was delivered to me with the shelves just flopping around inside the safe, the felt pad provided was too long and puckered, so it needed trimming, and the hinge lock screws (little silver screw in the provided picture) were either loose or had fallen out of place. This, to me, is an indication of sloppy quality control, or worse, unconcern for product quality, not an ideal situation should you need to get something resolved with the selling company. So, would I recommend this safe? Most assuredly not. Am I going to return it? Probably not. It sort of fits the bill of preventing the amateur, grab-and-dash thief from absconding with minor valuables. If you want real security you’ll need to spend considerably more money for something like a big Canon gun safe. ... show more

This is the 3rd time I have purchased and installed this type of safe. I left the other two in my previous homes. these are easy to install in the wall and I usually place them in a less than obvious location. They are reasonably sturdy and would take some effort to break in but that would not be easy without so tools. Good for keeping some of your stuff safe but easy to get to when you need it. This is a well built, sturdy wall safe. Depth-wise it fits well within the standard construction dwelling, but it took some work to get it to fit between the studs in my home. The safe is 14’ wide, the studs are as well. As a result, it was too tight a fit and I had to shave 1/8” off of one of the studs to get it to fit. Once that was done, it was great. But a bear to get it installed. Interior is shallow but expected. The shelves are held in place with less than sturdy tabs and the locking mechanism limits the placement of the board nterior shelves. I use this a lot. Extra keys, some cash, credit cards, passport, immunization cards, and other personal items. My only issue is that I must push the door tight to put the code in so it doesn't make noise as it's for doesn't close snugly. I suppose that I could put a linear on the junctions to keep it quiet.🤷🏽♀️ But I do get a lot of use out of it. I always know where my spare keys are now. 🤭 ... show more

This safe will not work in a wall where the studs are more than 16" apart, so check your walls before you buy. Installation was pretty easy. Just locate the studs, use a drywall saw to cut out the opening, then screw the safe into the studs from the inside. You may want to invest in your own screws, though. The head on one of the screws that came with safe broke off when I was screwing it into the stud. ... show more

Received this in-wall safe packed very well in Styrofoam, box, and over pack. The two small internal shelves had either come loose during transit, or else the screws, nuts, and washers had not be tightened to begin with. Nevertheless, the parts were all there so I just reinstalled them. This is the second safe like this that I've installed over the years so I was already familiar with it. No problems with the safe, but it is designed for studs 16" on center, and our home is 24", so I had to create a small 2x4" frame to fit inside my wall to compensate for the difference. My only complaint with the safe is that the lock housing on the door is so massive it takes up at least an entire 1/3 of the interior of the safe. So, the safe is good for just small items. The safe itself is really sturdy. The metal is over 1/8inch thick. I was surprised. The knob to open it could be a little more sturdy. It's plastic and a little hard to pull. Overall I recommend it. 👌
