  • Cannot view perimeter of quarters and dollar coins using stand provided
Size: DM9
I bought this specifically to take images of large coins for my dad's coin collection. When I got it, I noticed the stand was so short and not adjustable to be at a higher height (like a tripod is designed to). Then I tried to put a quarter under the scope and I get a limited view (I can only see a part of the quarter and never the full circumference/perimeter all in one shot/view). Many reviews said this microscope is "great for coins" but they don't specify WHICH coins... because obviously coins have different diameters. I only tried taking pictures, never a video. You can see how the quarter looks on my the scope's monitor vs the image taken from the software (HiView). PROS: 1) The image quality is amazing. I am a scientist that worked in both academia and small/big pharma labs so I know how to use microscopes and I can see this microscope is simple for anyone to use on its own. The software I downloaded was relatively simple. I had to click around until I saw where everything was but after that, I was good. 2) It came with some slides so someone could essentially practice using a microscope. Due to my professional experience there was no need for me to play with them. 3) If someone's taking pics of small coins, like a penny, I am sure you'll be able to take a picture of its perimeter. CONS: 1) The USB wire is short. I use a desktop computer to run this microscope. The computer is under the desk and my monitor and other accessories sit on top of the desk. It's quite a challenge for me to position my stand. Realistically, I would have to order a USB extension cable to use this scope long-term. I don't want to risk the cable getting snagged on or something and the scope trips/falls/drops/breaks. 2) In order for us to take pics of a quarter, I have to lift the camera-attached monitor *much* higher than the base/stage/stand. It is hard/tiresome for me to use one arm to lift the monitor, balance it in mid-air with the right focus, while simultaneously using my other hand to use my mouse to click "capture" to capture a pic. (see my images I attached). 3) Not until I opened the box and read the manual did I realize it's required to have a TF memory card to use (but it is not provided). It was upsetting to find this out. Lucky for me, I did have a spare TF card that I bought for a different device many years ago that I never opened/used. So I popped it into the scope's monitor to use. Although I barely used this scope, I can't tell if I "really" needed the TF card to take pics. Maybe if it was free-standing? But I loaded the card into the slot, plugged the scope into the computer, opened the software, took pics, and the pics instantly saved onto my computer (in its own folder). I never checked/confirmed if the pics saved into the card too 4) If someone isn't tech savy, the software (HiView) could get confusing. It has a variety of options like drawing lines/shapes, "measuring" the circumference of the coin (I tried this but the numbers it gave me didn't make much sense), and other features. Someone who is tech savy would need to fiddle around with all the settings to really maximize the features of this software in it's entirety. 5) I only tried using the remote while I was using the computer's software to take pictures. Considering I was using one hand to already balance the scope in mid-air, I thought it would be convenient to use the remote in my other hand to capture the image. But the remote didn't work.... so I don't know if the remote only works if you're using the microscope on it's own. I didn't bother trying at this point. OVERALL REVIEW: I really did love the monitor + camera, and the two probe LED lights that come out of the stand, but the stand's height itself is WAY too short... at least 4 inches too short for the type of coins we need to photograph. That's why I purposely took pics with a measuring tape to really understand what height I have vs need. We were thinking we could try to build our own stand by getting supplies at a home improvement store and sticking the microscope on top. But that's a lot of work to do (and more money to spend) for an item that already costs $80+. This scope could've easily gotten a 4 star rating if it wasn't for the short stand (it lost a star due to the software/cable). So I bumped it down another star for the stand. If it wasn't for the HQ images, I would've given it a 2 star.. so the picture quality really helped bump my rating. Disclaimer: I apologize for the messy background in my photos. Also, I never bothered setting up the correct date/time so the date you see is wrong. I took these pics ~03/24/2023. ... show more

My husband wanted something to look at coins with. I was a little nervous too but it because it seemed like way too good of a price for what he was wanting. This is so amazing. Works well. • Constant Power
Size: DM9H-7" HDMI
Plug in both the bottom and top USB cords. The bottom one powers the lights and the top powers the screen. Unless you are using it through your PC (mine wouldn't see the camera), plug the top one into a block and not the PC..then you have constant power.

  • a little too much set up compexity

Way more features than I needed , and hard to set up for an older person that doesn't understand the first thing about computers!

  • Very nice for the hobbiest or beginner in micro component soldering.
Size: DM9
This microscope is perfect for doing some basic soldering of small components. It will also be perfect to look at small insects and other things. The picture quality is OK. It is a bit grainy but not enough to be annoying. Connection to PC monitor works perfectly but again doesn't look the best. One thing I don't like is the camera auto adjusts to light. So adding more light to make the item your working on brighter just has the camera adjust it back down. But well worth the money. The battery holds a charge for quite awhile and the tablet type screen works perfectly. ... show more

  • Decent microscope
Size: DM9
It works for looking at coins. I don't use it for taking pictures yet. Can't fit entire coin in view so pictures would not be of full coins. Overall it works, but kind of pricey for what you get.
