  • Perfect Budget Alternative: This Reversible Tulip Hood for the Canon 50mm f/1.8 STM is a Winner!
Color: Tulip Flower Design
As a hobbyist photographer who's been shooting with the Canon EF 50mm f/1.8 STM lens for years – it's my go-to for portraits and low-light street photography – I know how essential a good lens hood is. The original Canon ES-68 is solid, but when mine got scratched up during a trip, I didn't want to shell out for another OEM. That's when I discovered this 50mm Reversible Lens Hood Shade in black with the tulip flower design, and wow, it's been a fantastic replacement! First off, the fit is spot-on. It bayonets smoothly onto the lens with a satisfying click, no play or wiggle, and it stays put even during bumpy hikes or crowded events. The reversible design is a lifesaver for storage – it flips back neatly over the lens, making my camera bag less bulky without risking damage to the hood or lens. Build-wise, it's made from high-quality, matte-black plastic that's lightweight but feels durable enough to handle everyday knocks. The tulip flower shape isn't just for looks; it effectively blocks stray light from the sides, reducing flare and ghosting in bright conditions. I've tested it in harsh midday sun and against window lights indoors, and my images come out with better contrast and no unwanted artifacts. Plus, it adds that extra protection against fingerprints, dust, or accidental bumps – peace of mind when you're out and about. What really impresses me is the value. For a fraction of the Canon price, you get comparable performance with the added bonus of easy lens cap compatibility (it clips on whether the hood is forward or reversed). No vignetting issues at all, even wide open at f/1.8. If you're rocking the Canon 50mm f/1.8 STM and need a reliable, affordable hood upgrade, grab this one. It's stylish, functional, and has earned a permanent spot in my kit. 5 stars all the way – highly recommended! ... show more

  • 50 mm Reversible Lens Hood Shade
Color: Tulip Flower Design
I used this reversible lens hood with my Canon EF 50 mm f/1.8 STM lens on several outdoor and indoor shoots, and overall I was satisfied with the performance and fit.

  • Decent hood
Color: Tulip Flower Design
A solid stand in for an OEM part that usually hold out very well. Built the same as the OEM, probably cheaper plastic. Remember to press the bayonet lock button or you could break it. I almost did and wondered why it was taking so much force to take it off. it's because of the lock button.

  • Affordable lens hood
Color: Original Design
I have a variety of camera lenses. The pro-level Canon brand (EF L-series) all have genuine Canon hoods that were included with the lens. My other Canon EF-S and EF lenses have all been equipped by me with third-party lens hoods from companies like JJC. Functionality is identical. Most expensive hoods have a coating of thin non-reflective black "velour" coating on the inside of the hood. This JJC lens hood has a non-reflective black matte finish inside. There's a huge difference in price between a genuine Canon brand hood and a good replacement like this JJC hood. Don't ask me why, it's a mystery. As many newer lens hoods do, this JJC hood locks into position and has a pushbutton release to unlock and remove the hood. I shot several hundred images in sunlight and reflections off store windows recently with the hood attached to my 55mm f1.8 lens. The hood worked perfectly where I needed the stray light blocked. ... show more

  • The gap in the JJC hood isn't an issue. Even Canon's OEM hoods have gaps that leak light.
Color: Original Design
I've read some reviews stating the gap lets light through is an issue. Well as it turns out I've seen no light leaks in any of my images. I used my laser to see where the light that does come through where it goes. It just moves straight out from the camera towards the subject. The light doesn't enter the lens. I check my other lens hood from Canon and some of them also have a similar gap. The Canon OEM hoods have a slightly smaller gap but still there and light does pass. I have no issue with light gaps in the OEM hoods. The JJC hood has frosting on the inside which reduces glare from any light bouncing in. There is also a decorative frosting on the outside that matches my 50mm lens. Nice touch for an inexpensive hood. It replaces another hood (I forgot what brand it was) I had on my R5 that didn't have the frosting which broke when my camera rolled off my bed onto the carpet. (Of course, the R5 was unharmed as it's a full metal body. Whew!) I have to say I'm very impressed with the quality of the JJC hood. I didn't want to buy a pricy OEM hood for a cheap EF 50mm lens. This is my second JJC product as the very comfortable JJC wrist strap which is attached to my R5. I'm very happy with both of their products and I will try out more of their products in the future. (Disclosure: I'm a professional wedding and portrait photographer. The camera pictured is a Canon R5 with a battery grip. The lens is the basic EF 50mm f/1.8 lens that you can buy for about $150 bucks. To make all my EF lenses attached to the R5 I use the Canon adapter with a control ring. The reason I use this setup is it's much lighter than my RF 50mm f/1.2 lens when I do street photography as a hobby.) ... show more
