  • The gap in the JJC hood isn't an issue. Even Canon's OEM hoods have gaps that leak light.
Color: Original Design
I've read some reviews stating the gap lets light through is an issue. Well as it turns out I've seen no light leaks in any of my images. I used my laser to see where the light that does come through where it goes. It just moves straight out from the camera towards the subject. The light doesn't enter the lens. I check my other lens hood from Canon and some of them also have a similar gap. The Canon OEM hoods have a slightly smaller gap but still there and light does pass. I have no issue with light gaps in the OEM hoods. The JJC hood has frosting on the inside which reduces glare from any light bouncing in. There is also a decorative frosting on the outside that matches my 50mm lens. Nice touch for an inexpensive hood. It replaces another hood (I forgot what brand it was) I had on my R5 that didn't have the frosting which broke when my camera rolled off my bed onto the carpet. (Of course, the R5 was unharmed as it's a full metal body. Whew!) I have to say I'm very impressed with the quality of the JJC hood. I didn't want to buy a pricy OEM hood for a cheap EF 50mm lens. This is my second JJC product as the very comfortable JJC wrist strap which is attached to my R5. I'm very happy with both of their products and I will try out more of their products in the future. (Disclosure: I'm a professional wedding and portrait photographer. The camera pictured is a Canon R5 with a battery grip. The lens is the basic EF 50mm f/1.8 lens that you can buy for about $150 bucks. To make all my EF lenses attached to the R5 I use the Canon adapter with a control ring. The reason I use this setup is it's much lighter than my RF 50mm f/1.2 lens when I do street photography as a hobby.) ... show more

  • Good value for money
Color: Tulip Flower Design
I used it to protect my ef 50mm 1.8 and it works ok. A bit loose but nothing that impedes proper functioning. Good value for money since my EF lens is not expensive, makes no sense to buy a super expensive hood.

  • JJC always provides great value
Color: Original Design
I purchased this hood because...well, I always shoot with a lens hood. There are two versions available for this Canon lens, a "tulip" style, and this one, which is fully round in coverage. I wanted one that bayonets on, because I wanted it to be secure, and I wanted to be able to reverse it. I went aftermarket because I didn't want to waste the savings I had from finding a great deal on the lens. I chose JJC because I have used their hoods on several different lenses and have been pleased. This one attaches smoothly and positively, both in use and when reversed for storage. There aren't instructions, so you have to sort out how to install it. Hint: Look for the red dot on the lens and the red marks on the hood. The solid dot on the hood is for shooting installation, the open one is for reversed. The bayonet piece on the inside of the hood is screwed on (like I imagine the Canon one is), rather than just molded in. I would expect this to make it more sturdy and durable. Overall, highly recommended. ... show more

  • Great Lens Hood for Canon EF 50mm STM
Color: Original Design
Similar to all the JJC branded lens hoods that I have purchased in the past, this lens hood for the Canon EF 50mm STM worked perfectly fine. The quality of those hoods looked very premium. I have purchased two of these same lens hoods since I want one for each of my Canon EF 50mm lenses. I especially loved the lock function on this lens hood. It saved me from many headaches from those that do not have it. As always, most photography equipment is overpriced and including this lens hood. ... show more
