  • The Price for the Sharpness 👌(This review was based on the Older Model of this Lens)
Style: Single
I remember borrowing my friend’s 50mm 1.4 Sigma ART about 6 months ago, and I just fell in love with what this lens can do, and I was finally able to pick this up a month ago. The sharpness is incredible for it’s great price, I use this with my A7Rii, so my pictures come out pretty well detailed. The lens produces very nice bokeh. They’re well out of focus, and nicely circular. The autofocus isn’t too bad, but I almost don’t really care about it, I got this lens for the sharpness of my images. The lens is pretty heavy, and big. But I don’t mind it. The build quality is solid, and I love the design. Although I do wish the focus ring was more smooth to turn, It isn’t as buttery smooth as the focus ring on my Sony FE 24-105 F/4 G OSS All in all, I mainly got this lens for the sharpness it can produce, and for the price (which btw is over $200 cheaper than on b&h). This lens gets a 5 star from me. ... show more

  • So much value for the money!
Style: Single
Go straight out and buy this. I bought this lens with my Sony A7iii mainly for shooting Boudoir and it is freaking amazing. Zero perceptible distortion, and it does quite well with chromatic aberration, which is easily fixed in Photoshop. CA seems to only show up in the brightest of situations where darker objects are back-lit strongly by the sunlight, such as a strand of grass, some hair, or a twig, and pretty much only if you are shooting directly into the light. This lens is nice and heavy. I can still shoot one handed for a bit, but I'm a rather strong guy. The build quality of this lens feels fantastic, being made out of metal. It has a ton of glass and auto-focuses very quietly. The eye auto-focus is very fast and I am nailing shots left and right. Just make sure to catch focus with the subject's eyes open first, as it seems the Sony firmware is not capable of recognizing closed eyes, or even a face if the mouth is covered by something. This is not the fault of the lens though, I am sure. The only cons I can think of are it's size, which isn't a con for me, and the manual focus ring. If you do a lot of manual focus, which at 1.4 on an A7iii or A9 you shouldn't need to, the focus ring only gives you what feels like a 1/4 turn from lock to lock. That means the focusing is very sensitive to your input. I don't manually focus, so it's not a con for me either. I just love this lens! ... show more

  • This lens is probably the best 50mm FF version for Sony FF
Style: Single
This is my second 50mm lens since starting photography. My first 50 mm was for APS-C (Crop sensor), since moving to FF I've purchased 35 mm, 85 mm, 24-70 and 70-200. These lens are great in their own right when you have specific look you are going after or if you're limited in the space you use. This lens was what I was missing in my portrait line up. This lens is perfect if you have limited space and you're only shooting 1-2 subjects and you want to focus on the subjects at hand. The wuality of the images with this lens is amazing, I like the reddish / magenta color cast Sigma lenses have in their profiles, it's better than the off green that is present in the APS-C lenses. Only issue is the focus isn't as fast as the native of course. Pros Sigma Art lenses are phenomenal Great focal length for FF cameras Image quality is phenomenal for Sigma lenses Gives a reddish color cast (better than the green from APS-C Cameras) Cons Lens is HUGE and Heavy Slow to focus compared to Native lenses. Not sure if you want to use this for events ... show more

  • Superb lens, a bit too heavy and bulky for me; came with a defect :(
Style: Single
This is a beautiful lens, you won't be able to find this kind of quality for this kind of money. Bokeh is unbelievable, it's very fast and absolutely perfect for low-light situations. A bit on a "warmer side". Downside for me - it's heavy and since it's also longer than "native" lenses made by Sony/Zeiss it tilts a little bit. Unfortunately my lens came with a defect that's why I had to send it back. Because of the problem with the weight and size I still don't know whether I should reorder the lens or get Sony Sonnar 1.8 instead... ... show more

  • PhoenixPhoto is not the way to go
Style: Single
I don’t not recommend the sigma 50mm due to the lack of performance when it comes to the autofocus but as well in my experience the lens I received, it did not work properly with the Sony a7r3. It’s slow and delayed with sometimes the camera and lens not communicating where you have a black screen for about 20 seconds and then comes on. As a professional photographer this is not okay and would recommend going with a native Sony ( I have the 24-120 I LOVE IT). In regards to PhoenixPhoto I do not recommend, as a prime item and fulfilled by amazon they charged me $200+ in restocking fees when the item was defective. I’ll never buy anything from them again, Outrageous. ... show more

  • Great lens for the money
Style: Single
It works great on Sony A7R3A, auto focus is fast and sharp. Image is great. F1.4 is very useful on low light. It is slightly heavy compares to Sony GM F1.2 50mm, however it is not issue to me.

  • Stunning
Style: Single
I’ve only gotten to use the lens a couple times since I bought it but so far it lives up to its reputation - tack sharp, beautiful, images. Even having read and watched numerous reviews I wasn’t prepared for the weight. I’m use to using a Sony 85mm and a 35mm Zeiss. Both are much smaller and lighter lenses. But, neither is a 1.4 either. This 50mm is heavy but it produces stunning photos. ... show more
