I am always on the lookout for toys for the grandchildren to use when they are here. I like to have a good variety for various ages, and this one is sure to be a hit with not only the grandkids, but some of the parents (and younger uncles) as well. There are so very many straws and "jacks" (connector pieces) to build with, that there shouldn't be any issues with sharing. This set comes with a page of ideas, just to get you started if you need that. I have to admit that my main reason for buying this set is that I plan to encourage the kids to use the pieces to build forts. I would LOVE for them to build forts and cover them with sheets in the playroom, or in the basement rec room. When my kids were little, I didn't mind it at all if they wanted to pull all the cushions off the couches and build forts in the living room (especially if I was trying to cook without them underfoot in the kitchen!). Now that I am older, I like to actually sit on the couches with the adults and have conversations, so I don't want all the cushions taken for forts. And I don't know about you, but I seem to be losing my ability to keep my mind focused on conversation with preschoolers climbing all over me. --although I love the preschoolers and all of their climbing and hugs. Just not when we're having very adult / serious conversatons. We'll see if this works. The carrying case keeps everything contained, which is a big plus. It should be easy clean-up, as the connectors (plastic "jacks") can all fit into a quart size zip loc bag, and can be pushed over the straws well enough to close the lid. The bright colors are appealing, and while the concept is simple, it's a fun and different activity for indoors. The only drawback is that if you have babies and toddlers around, you will have to watch carefully. The connectors are a size that would easily be put into a little mouth, and with those bright and appealing colors, they might be pretty irresistable. Also, kids should be instructed NOT to run around with the straws in their mouths, or even in their hands. (My mother used to always be warning us about things that could "put our eyes out", and I thought that was funny until I had kids and now grandkids.) I think this is a fair price and worth your time to consider!

Not sure why they call this set a fort kit. The sticks are only 6" long! Still a fun set for just creating other types of shapes, but do not get if you are looking to build a fort for your kids to play in! Another critisicm I have of this set is that the hub connectors come only in one style. You could build a host of other shapes if they had a variety of hubs to create more angles in your design. Im rating this as average. Could be better. The colors are nice and it comes in a handy storage box.

I ordered this for my prek class to have something that would keep them busy. And boy does it do just that! With 500 draws and connectors the possibilities are endless. It is a fun activity by yourself or with others working together with you. The straws are durable yet flexible to make them easy to manipulate. They come in a great storage bucket with handle to carry with you easily. This is well worth the money!

I love open ended toys as my grandkids vary widely in age, ability and interests. They all liked this toy! The straws are thicker than a normal straw, more durable even than those thick milkshake straws. That said, they aren't indestructible and one of my grandkids was able to bend and crease one. It didn't ruin it though. They loved building with these and made a variety of things. No one got frustrated, the pieces fit easily together and though slightly different, compatible with another similar set. I do recommend getting a larger container. We couldn't get them to all fit back in the container it came in.

The kids played with this toy at the library and enjoyed it enough that I thought they would like it at home. It comes with a whole lot of pieces, so all five of them can play it at the same time, each getting about 125 pieces. They've made some really cool shaped things! They love building type toys, so this is right up their alley. The plastic is bendable, and even when they bend it all the way, it snaps back into place without leaving a bad area or being unusable. Definitely hurts to step on the jacks, so keep it confined to a rug and cleaned up promptly. They could make a small fort covered by sheets with this many, though we haven't tried it yet.

The building kit comes in a container which is a big plus, so the kids have somewhere to store the toy when not in use. It is a very simple toy, straws with connecting pieces. The kids are entertained with it by being able to build tall objects or being able to bend what they build. Can't bend it too much or the pieces pop out though. Just have to be mindful that there are small pieces, so if your kids are messy then this will get all over the place. This is a great addition to a play room, so kids can alternate between different style toys.

This is kind of a merge of tinkertoys and knex. They are plastic straw-type pieces with little plastic connectors. The straws are quite flexible, hence many of the fun shapes in the idea manual they give. Because they're hollow and rather large it's easy for a child to build a structure as big as they are but that they can still move around. It's a fairly durable toy so far. I'll update if these don't last very well then I'll update this, but so far they're working great.

This is a great building kit...so much fun! When we first opened it up, my little guy said "straws!" and that's exactly what they look like...plastic straws. The connectors looks like jacks, if you're old enough to remember those. Together, the options of building projects are endless. They objects you build will be a tad fragile, but really the fun is in the building process, our projects repeatedly get disassembled and something new is built. The carrying case is a bonus, for sure. Great toy, hours of fun!
