I have observed lately a large number of watercolor papers on the market that claim to be 100%cotton but at low prices and large quantities that seem like an unlikely combination given how pricey good cotton paper usually is. So my curiosity peaked and I decided to check out this one, as I was able to find a smaller quantity to sample. I wasn't sure I wanted to be stuck with 120 pages of junky paper. I have actually been pleasantly surprised. I am not sure I entirely believe that this paper is 100%cotton, but in putting it through its paces I have found it does a decent job. I also can't tell if it has any sizing on it, either external or internal, to help control the flow and absorption of the paint and water. The jury is still out on that aspect. So a summary of my early thoughts Pros: very good price for large amounts of paper I was able to get fairly smooth washes and it doesn't seem streaky There is a textured side and a smooth side. The texture is gentle repetitive lines, not too pronounced, and not distracting I was able to glaze quite a few layers on and not have it pick up previous layers The colors I was using (which are professional watercolors) came out VERY vibrant and sharp So far I haven't had any pilling in the paintings I have done. Cons: A BIG one is that the first sheet I painted I put tape on and it TORE terribly. I retried it again with putting the tape on my shirt before putting on the paper and it helped but there was still minor tearing. I seriously doubt it could hold up to masking fluid. It DOES buckle with lots of water. Now, if taped down it settles down nicely when dried, but the aforementioned problems with tape make that a scary proposition So in summary, it is a decent paper for practice. I doubt I would do any commissioned or fancy framed works with it, but more casual practice it is hard to beat the price. I would say it is nicer than Cans on XL. Definitely nowhere near Arches. I would say it falls slightly under the quality of Bee Paper, which I have greatly enjoyed in the past. ... show more

I really like this paper. I’m beginning to get into watercolor, I find this to be a great starting out size, not overwhelming..And watercolor doesn’t leak through. Art dries pretty quick. I chose the 5x7. Here are some pics I did next to iPad ( no judging the art, I m learning). And shot of texture.
