  • Fantastic kit for teens and young adults
Bought this as a Christmas gift for my 11 yo granddaughter. She is really enjoying it, however she gets a bit frustrated due to the complexity of it. It is a very high quality item and as such, very comprehensive. She did finish one robot and it worked great. Hope she doesn’t give up and move on to toys. ... show more

  • Those dang round connectors! But otherwise good project for a kid and an adult to do together
While its a great project you're pretty much stuck to what you choose. That's why it lost 1 star (and some other annoyances) The extremely short piece in that pic is impossible to get out without mauling it and making it unusable. I even asked the professionals that build these types of things for competition... they advised to buy some as, you guessed it, they get destroyed. The tank was chosen as the project and took a total of 8 hours. About an hour and half was just sorting pieces to make life easier. Turret can be manually rotated. The vehicle does move pretty well. It has a tendency to spin the treads on smooth surfaces, wood table, vinyl floors, metal table, you get the idea. Instructions could be better in places because they don't show a connection or the piece you want doesn't match the pic all too well. The difference between grey and black can be impossible to distinguish unless there is a black piece that's also needed. Gray is hard to illustrate on printed instructions and dont get me started on grey dark gray and black! I wish they would figure out how to distinguish them better. The rechargeable battery comes with a USB A to charge it. The USB connector (the plug itself) has a red light when charging and turns off the light when done. Said battery is almost impossible to get in the battery box correctly and get the wires to lay properly so the door will actually go on and shut. That took 20 minutes of pushing with my plastic tipped tweezers to get the wires to hook behind the little wire holders, then the angle of the wires coming out of the battery makes it so even more shoving and cussing is needed. Then the battery happily turns and there's a bulge (wiring connection) that makes the battery sit higher so the wires pop out..... and I'm not about to open that door to snap a pic! Oh and no little screwdriver was included for the 2 battery doors. Thankfully I'm a tool hoarder and had some from other projects I've put together. The round connector pieces that go into round holes need to be dead center and then some force is needed to get them to slide together.... I thought of wax but the way the connector is split makes it so that doesn't work. And yes I put the pieces in baggies in a mostly sorted way. Some just have 1 piece and then there's the complete oddballs... so those get mixed... So yes even a 12+ year old might need help due to the round connectors being pains in the butt. The 14 year old and I did have a grand time putting it together though. ... show more

  • Lego robot
Gift for my son, he loved it.

  • Super fun kit, comparable to much more expensive branded kits!
My 10 year old son absolutely loved this kit and I'd compare it to much more expensive Lego Technic kits, which cost 2-3x as much. He ended up building the robot looking toy called the Shadow Warrior I think, and thought it was really cool how the tank tracks worked. And better yet, once he was done the remote allowed him to drive it around and come to life, so it got more run than a normal lego set for sure. He doesn't have a phone so he didn't get a chance to try out the app, but this was a winner nonetheless, specially at the price point. Any buiding/engineer minded kid is going to love it. ... show more

  • So many pieces!
I thought this would be great for my engineer-minded 9-year-old. The Amazon description indicated it was good for ages 8+, the box says 12+. This comes with a lot of pieces organized in labeled bags. For me, it was intimidating. For someone who likes a lot of versatility and options and loves to build with tiny pieces, it will be great. It does come with a large instruction manual to assist in the build. ... show more
