  • Good value
Worked well for me. 1. Keep the tank full, do not drain 2. Turn off the water supply to the tank 3. Open a few hot water taps to let the hot water out from pipes above the hot water tank 4. Have plenty of clothes to clean up the water spillage 5. Use a impact driver or drill with proper adapter to slowly break loose the old rod just inch at a time do not let the rod spin, because you run the risk of making the remaining material spin wide from the core, inside the tank making the removal a nightmare 6. Once the thread is broken use a wrench but make sure do not make the tank move and break the water supply pipes. This is the reason to leave the tank full 7. Use thread tape and hand tight the new rod 8. Once done now you can try removing the sludge from the bottom of the tank using the valve at the bottom. I used the sediment buster which worked well for me. Keeping the water in the tank will help keep the weight and allowing you to remove the old rod without causing movement of the tank . • Fixable rod saved installation problems.
Magnesium rod on a flexible carrier was handier than I thought. I had to cut the old rod to remove it from the hot water heater. The flexible rod made for easy installation.

  • Anode Rod Installation
It was a bit difficult to begin threading into the heater, but easier to install in a tight environment.

  • Socket included requires 1/2" driver which many homeowners do not have.
Comes with necessary plumbers tape and socket. Worked in my 22 year old GE water heater. Requires 1/2" socket wrench. Mine was stuck and required a 1/2" impact driver to remove the old corroded anode. Tried with a breaker bar, but that moved the whole water heater and was afraid of breaking something. Overall product was exactly as expected. Would buy again. ... show more

  • Everything You Need to Replace your Anode Rod
After watching some videos on increasing the longevity of my water heater, replacing the anode rod was the number one suggestion. To that end, I embarked on removal of the rod in my 3-year-old A.O. Smith water heater. This proved more daunting than I anticipated. The rod is secured by a large nut. First, I tried a regular socket, next a breaker bar, then a cheater bar attached to the breaker bar. The nut would not budge. I called A.O. Smith and the technician said the rod is tightened to 150 psi at the factory and I would need an impact wrench to remove. I purchased an impact wrench and that did the trick. However, since my original bar was not articulated, I had to hacksaw the bar to remove it as it was hitting my duct work halfway out of the tank. That took about a half hour as I did it manually to avoid sparks around a gas appliance. Turned out the original rod was in pretty good shape and required a lot of cutting. However, at this point, I was committed to installing the new rod because it was articulated, and I spent so much time and money to remove the old rod. The new rod was easy to install. I like the fact they included the proper socket and plumber's tape. I manually secured the rod with a breaker bar. Although this project turned out more complicated than anticipated, I will now be able to check the rod annually per the maintenance schedule in the owner's manual for my water heater. I can also remove this rod without cutting the rod. My hope is that I can significantly extend the life of my water heater. If I accomplish that goal this was all worth it. ... show more

  • works in tight spaces
I used to sell this type of anode rod when I had my hardware store. It works really great in tight spaces like a closet where you have no room to install a regular one because of it hitting the ceiling. If you have an impact wrench it would greatly help in getting the old rod out

  • Hopefully it works in yours
This product produced more oxygen in my hot water heater tank, so when I would run the shower the air would escape out of the shower head. After 5 to 10 mins, it would stop, but I ended up replacing my hot water heater. It also made the water smell like chemicals.
