  • I really liked this mower until it failed.
I am unapologetic greenie, and my purchase of a battery powered lawn mower in June of 2023 seemed a perfect fit. I was so impressed I bought several more Ryobi garden tools--a weed whacker, tiller, and blower because the lawnmower batteries were compatible. Then near the end of my first season of use, the lawnmower quit. The wheels and light worked. The blade did not. My problem was the closest repair center was in Idaho. I live in Wyoming. I found another repair center in Utah, and my son took it down to be repaired on his way through last winter. The repair center had parts available, and they fixed it in 15 minutes. They said it was a common problem with that mower, and they had made the identical repair on dozens of others. Now halfway through the second season, the mower failed again with the exact problem. I called Ryobi customer service and learned there is now a repair center 150 miles from here, but I will have to drop it off, they will have to order parts, and I can get it a couple weeks later. Here is my issue: Although I love how my mower works--bagging, cutting, and noise levels, and battery life are excellent. However, reading online I have learned this problem with the Ryobi Crosscut mowers is very common, and I can only expect it to fail again and again. If I had a repair facility in my community, it would be less of a problem. Without one close by, it is a deal killer, and I would not recommend their products. ... show more

  • Nice quiet mower for small lawns
Not a bad mower nice and quiet seem very powerful handled tall Grass well one battery lasted about a half an hour so there's about 1 hour run time between the two batteries did like the front and rear wheel drive system and like being able to switch between them does help save battery life would be nice if you could shut the lights off to make the battery last longer and it would be nice if the batteries could last longer for a commercial use but overall not bad for a small homeowners with small lawns only used it to mulch my grass was quite tall mounted it up well couldn't really tell it was mowed wasn't chunks left behind ... show more

  • Do not recommend Ryobi 40V Self Propelled Lawn Mower
I purchased the 40V walk behind mower 1 year ago. I have had a host of performance problems with the product from the beginning. Unreliable or inconsistent performance for stalling, shutting down even with fully charged batteries, the drive system kicking on and off for no apparent reason and as of today the drive system is completely dead. Mower powers up and will cut, but it is now a push mower, not a self propelled and while in the push mode, the mower spin speed is erratic. Home Depot shut down it's service centers so now I have to bring it to independent service providers who are all over an hours drive away and each advises that they have wait times of over 2 months before they can even look at the product to determine what is wrong. This is the second Ryobi product that I have had issues with, the other being 2900psi Pressure washer. 2 out of 2 products with issues and POOR to nonexistent service options. I will not purchase another Ryobi product nor will I purchase any sizeable equipment or appliances from Home Depot as they have left their customers stranded. ... show more

  • Honestly I like it!
I bought mine a few months ago from Depot and have had NO problems with it. It's lightweight - bagging is pretty good. Self propel motor is powerful enough. It's maneuverable, height-adjustable, starts every time. I havent had any of the problems the other reviewers have had with it, and it does the job its intended to do. Can't complain! works great. ... show more

  • Overpriced and cheaply made. Product may be too new on the market (bugs not worked out)...
Bought this less than 2 years ago for my wife to use (we are getting older, and gas pull-starts are not in our future anymore). Started out well and had no problems other than finding replacement blades. Now, after the first year the battery cover has broken off, and having issues with the mower "free-wheeling" (rear wheel locks up when not using the self-propelled feature). Trying to find out more about this as it should be solid considering the age and price. Note we only have about 1/2 acre total that we mow, so am surprised that glitches are already popping up. The batteries are hefty too, and not easy to remove/replace. Seems Ryobi should have had a "charge in place" design/feature so the battery/batteries could be charged while still in/on the mower. ... show more

  • Keep Looking
This mower has a very annoying habit of just stopping, cutting out. For no reason it will just stop. Sometimes several time in a single mow. The grass is low and dry, ground is level and battery if full. No reason to stop. but it does and it stops often. My opinion, keep looking. I wish I had.

  • Micro switch is a bit to sensitive.
Constant pressure on the handle is required on unit will stop. Less sensitive switch is needed

  • you can"t get it repaired practically speaking
i liked my 1 year old mower fine until it broke. there is 1 repair shop in a 6 hour drive range from Boise, and their service support is a robot that tells you to drive 6 hours and drop it off. honestly you should buy a brand that can be repaired
