Seeds germinated within 7-10 days and then I removed it carefully and rolled it back up for future use. Worked great! Burlap had a noticeable but mild smell. For outdoor use, it dissipated pretty quick and no longer smells. I kept the material wet and the smell didn’t seem to impact grass seed growth. The burlap no longer smells at all now. Best value at the amount you get and extremely helpful for my yard overhaul.

I will be using this product to make a netting for an A frame stand up garden......a few flowers, strawberries etc. It is quality burlap, solid weave perfect for cutting and making the hanging baskets. Also purchase was a smaller (less yardage) I liked it so much I ordered a larger pack that will make more baskets. You might want to look for the balls of 12 colored burlap as it is a perfect combining product for my project and might be for yours Thank you

This thing reeks of fuel. I thought it smelled like diesel fuel, but it’s some sort of horrible fuel. I thought, well, it’s only $8, I’ll wash it. Now my washing machine smells. After we took this thing out (and threw it away), we ran an empty load with just Tide washing machine cleaner, following the directions. Then we washed one old towel in a regular wash with regular laundry detergent to try to get rid of the smell. It still smells as much as before—and the old towel smells now, too. I don’t know how we’re going to get rid of the smell. I can’t do any laundry because if it made the towel unusable, it will likely do the same to our clothes. All this for 5 feet of garden fabric which I can’t use. UPDATE: A few days later. I’ve followed instructions on how to clean out my washing machine and have done them multiple times. Many times. My washing machine still smells. We have no idea what this substance is, but I doubt it’s safe to be wearing it against my skin because it’s on my clothes. (I’m not washing my clothes in the machine.) The smell is a little less intense, but still very noticeable. Update 5/17/2026: It took us multiple loads of trying various solutions to get the horrible smell out of our machine, doing several loads a day for at least a week before the smell was gone. If you buy one of these, do not wash it.

I bought to keep squirrels and birds from interpreting my freshly laid seed as a smorgasbord. I'm surprised at how quickly the grass started coming through and how easy it was to peel back off the young growth (making it reusable, if need be). The petroleum smell isn't as noticeable when opened as it is when unfolded, then it's BAD. Cannot fathom why it smell like petroleum.

I’m aware that burlap has a smell but when I opened this and wrapped it around my blueberry pot to keep them cooler I was overwhelmed with the smell. I could smell it from 15 feet away outdoors. That smell lasted a whole week before I could water without smelling burlap. Other than the atrocious smell it works well to keep my soil cooler in the pots.

this fit perfectly for one mini tree that was in a pot for the winter months before being transplanted, wanted to protect it from the snow and it fit perfectly. Covered it from top to bottom and it kept the snow off it and breaking the branches as it was only about 4 feet tall..The material was very strong and held up to our terribly cold, snowy and very icy winter..and the perfect size I used it all for this one tree but it worked great to protect it.
