  • Best in this price point
Color: 144F1
I did a lot of research before buying from this vendor, and the quality is likely superior for the following reasons: Metal propeller. Other products have a plastic prop and include a backup one, which is a red flag to me Propeller protector. That seems like a nice add-on Adjustable handle. This upgrade works very well. 4-stroke. Allowed on more lakes, less pollution, no mixing oil and gas Other reviews mentioned customer service, I had a question and they answered promptly and thoroughly It is also taller than some other engines in the same price range Nothing has broken and it runs great so far! It's definitely a budget product, so I don't expect it to work as well as a $1000 Honda motor, but it gets the job done! Edit after a summer of (ab)use: The propeller protector broke off. The engine also randomly skips or sputters, so I'm guessing it just needs to get tuned up or something, which I won't do. I literally dumped this engine in the water a few times and it still runs fine. The throttle spring is now loose so sometimes the engine won't slow down completely. Overall it's very reliable and won't break down, which is very nice to have with a four-stroke in this price range. If you aren't as concerned about reliability, you could look for a similar price range for a used four-stroke that would require more maintenance, and probably give better performance. If you want something cheap and reliable with almost zero maintenance, this is your motor. It's so nice to have this new reliable motor that's cheap enough to not worry if I destroy it. ... show more

  • great little dinghy engine
Color: 144F1
This is a great little engine for our dinghy. Starts right up and not heavy to lift (that was important for us) . Pushes the dinghy around just fine. I even got it running again after I dropped and submerged it in salt water (don't ask and not that I recommend doing that). Also, great customer service. ... show more

  • Prop doesn't spin till almost half throttle
Color: 144F1
Pushes my 12ft plastic Jon boat 4mph witch isn't bad it's kinda loud but not to bad you can still hear your surroundings but my rating comes into play because the motor doesn't start spinning the propeller until you are at almost half throttle and the cage that goes around it is complete junk I had to bend part of it to even get it on properly and then the first time I used the motor the cage broke at the brackets so I'm order to use it again id have to have it welded back together ... show more

  • Observations Thus Far
Color: 144F1
I received this item today and assembled it with the instructions provided. Packaging was good, no damage and delivery was a day earlier than estimated. As others have mentioned, the propeller is some type of cast metal and motor comes with a tool kit, propeller guard, shear pins, extra screws wrenches, allen keys etc. The first thing I noticed was the on/off switch was installed upside down on the J shaped throttle handle. No biggie really, it was held on by one screw so simple fix to reposition. It is one of those things though that makes you wonder about thoroughness of quality control in other perhaps more critical areas. Time will tell I suppose. The instructions, which are in English, were fair for the most part but provided no detail I could find on type of gear lube for the propeller gear box (lower unit). The gearbox does appear to have a fill/drain screw so I sent an inquiry to their customer service email asking what lubricant, how much to use, etc in case its not shipped with lube already topped off. (Update: per service tech rep motor is shipped with gearbox lube installed and they answered within just a couple hours of my email). It did take me a minute to attach the J handle to the motor. Seemed the two part clamp was too tight until I applied a fair amount of force to the two halves of the clamp to mate the halves together around the handle. Seems to hold handle position really well once assembled. I bought this motor for pushing a sailboat (approx 750 lbs with people and gear) in and out of mooring and will edit my review after a good sea trial. Update: I used the motor recently. It pushed the boat at 4.2 mph top speed. It did skip intermittently a few times but contacted customer service with the issue and they immediately shipped me a new carburetor. ... show more

  • Tough little engine
Color: 144F1
The media could not be loaded. This little motor is great, super tough. I’ve had it out in large bays/ estuaries. Rivers, bayous and ponds and she keeps going. Even got caught in a heavy rainfall and she kept going. The little coil pack that attaches to the spark plug is fragile tho, it broke but the seller was nice enough to send another one. I like this little engine, it’s been awesome! ... show more

  • Great little motor.
Color: 144F1
Use this on a 10’ dinghy to get me down the river into the bar to crab. It’s always started within two pulls and barely takes any gas at all.

  • Great lil motor
Color: 144F1
I purchased this mother for a 10’ bass raider. The motor is plenty strong enough to pus the boat. Great mpg. Easy start and was easy to assemble. However I really had my doubts about the U handle design. Well the u handle sucks. After getting the boat in the water and getting it started, I began to navigate the Navasota River. I made it about ten feet when the motor turned on its own because of the swiveling design of the handle. The boat was running in circles while I tried to turn it off. I made a rubber shim and put in the housing so not to damage the shaft, and made it fixed instead of swivel. Now it works great. The basket for the prop is junk, it fell apart on the way to the river while trailering the boat. Yes the motor was tied down securely. Just a joke of a shield. Other that the two miner issues the lil motor is awesome and for the price it’s really awesome. ... show more
