    • Fireproof? Waterproof? I have My Doubts........
***EDIT*** (I added an extra star for customer service. They do have a great customer service department) I bought this safe as a step up from regular lock boxes. I saw the 'Fireproof' and 'Waterproof' claims and bought it. I wanted something with a measure of protection in the event of a fire and such other calamities that life likes to throw at us. I received the safe and find it difficult to believe that this thin metal could be 'fire and waterproof'. The title sublines are deceptive. Setting up the combination is relatively easy and if the batteries die from storage, you have two keys to use. The other positive is there are three drawers and a small storage area which I needed. I will continue to use this safe until I can upgrade to another quality build and brand. Regardless, the safe is a cheap alternative until one can find or afford a better one. ... show more

After just about a month I returned it. I wasn’t expecting Union Safe quality for $200. But I was expecting more than what I got. It arrived in perfect condition but at 50# it was thin and “tinny”. The door when locked wiggled a lot and wasn’t a solid seal. Furthermore, I seriously question the fire rating. I wasn’t impressed out of the gate but was willing to make do thinking at the very least I could secure it to the stud wall. If someone wanted it badly enough, they could have it knowing I’m not planning to store the family jewels in it. I decided to return it when all the ball bearings came rolling out of the drawer rendering the drawer useless. That pretty much sealed the deal for me. So, I dont have super high expectations but after a ton of research and with similar price point am going to give another brand (Tigerking) a try via direct. ... show more

    • Not fire proof safe
First off, this is supposed to be a safe, not a mere metal lock box. But a metal lock box it is. The delivery guy and I both could pick it up without issue because it was so lightweight. A real safe is much heavier. In terms of fire proofness, no, it's not going to do the job. There is no fireboard or any other kind of insulation lining the walls. Just metal, and not very thick either. And waterproof? No. There is nothing in the way of a seal that can prevent water from getting in. Some safes have a seal that gets activated by heat from the fire in order to make the safe waterproof. This item has no such thing. In my opinion, this is a lock box, not a safe.
