  • Best tape to seal out hot/cold air, stays in place, removes cleanly at end of season
Size: Pack of 1
Well worth the extra cost to get this 3M tape, with works much better in every way compared to cheaper alternatives. For best adhesion, clean the surfaces well with detergent, then rinse and dry well before using. If you take those steps, this tape stays put for months. Then--the best part--at the end of the season, it removes easily and cleanly with no residue. It is also gentle on intact surfaces. If used on flaking, deteriorated painted/finished surfaces, it might remove some flakes, so use with care. This works equally well to keep out hot air (e.g., used to seal gaps around a window air conditioner) and cold air (e.g., used to attach and seal an air conditioner anti-draft cover in winter). It is also very easy to work with--cuts cleanly, tends to not stick to itself too readily. ... show more

  • Works better than expected
Size: Pack of 1
I am writing this review after sealing my windows and sliding door for the midwest winter. It worked absolutely amazing at keeping the drafts from coming in! Better than any plastic covering I used before. It also prevented the interior of my door from being condensed with water and freezing during the Sub-Zero chill. First time in a decade! Great temporary fix until I could get my doors replaced. Highly recommend. ... show more

  • Great
Size: Pack of 1
This tape is pretty good stuff. One of our windows doesn't have the best seal and let in a really nasty draft. I applied this tape to the window and the draft improved significantly. Will it work miracles and create an air tight seal that keeps out all of the cold air? Nope. But it helps quite a bit. It no longer feels like an open freezer behind our couch. The tape itself is very interesting. It's made of a thicker plastic. The only way I know how to describe the material is that it feels like those plastic decals you lick and slap on glass. As far as the adhesive goes, I think the stuff is pretty good. It's strong enough that it adheres to the window well, but not so strong that when you peel it off it takes paint with it or leaves residue behind. My one complaint is that there isn't very much tape. If it were a larger roll I probably would have tried it in every window in my house to see if it made a difference in my power bill. ... show more

  • Good for sealing areas.

Works very well. Kept cold air outside where so did use it. Should have bought more and will use again next year.

  • On the fence
Size: Pack of 1
I have used this tape on several windows and I'm still not sure what I think about it. It definitely is a quick fix approach to sealing cracks and it doesn't require any special skill or tools. To some extent, the tape definitely works but the hard thing is that I don't know how well. The cold air flow can definitely be sealed shut, but cold air will still permeate the tape. I don't feel like there is any particular risk to our paint job as I had to lift the tape several times to get it applied just right. It is adhesive and sure but not aggressively so. If done right, it is not very apparent that it is even applied. However, that kind of result either takes a LOT of patience or maybe a natural touch. If not done well, it can look really sloppy. Getting the tape into a corner without it sticking to one side before I was ready took some practice. I found using smaller lengths of tape made the process easier to manage. The package doesn't come with a way to cut the tape and it cannot just be ripped. You will need scissors to make a clean cut. I think this tape is a fine short term solution, but I will likely remove it and caulk/patch for a cleaner, more long term solution. ... show more

  • Life Saver
Size: Pack of 1
I live in a studio apartment and I have a bay window with a couch by it. Only one of my windows has storm windows and I had a terrible draft coming in through the other two and my apartment wouldn't budge above 62°F and I live in Boston. I could not go anywhere near my couch by the windows for days because of how cold it was even with a blanket. I don't pay for heating but I do like feeling comfortable in my apartment. The maintenance crew used painters tape on the sides and bottom of the windows but there was still a draft coming in from the top of the windows. I was contemplating if I should get the Window Shrink-Film Insulator kit but I like being able to use the blinds SO.. I came across this. The tape is thick and the material is similar to car decals for glass. Knowing of the 3M brand I know their product's have very strong adhesive that made me skeptical in case it rips off the paint. The adhesive is strong enough to stick to any surface but easy to come of without ripping off the surface or paint while I was applying and adjusting. Since it'll be on there for a couple months I'll see if it rips of the paint at the end of winter. I got this for my window in mid January when it's 15°F outside SO IT'S NOT TOO LATE TO GET THIS DURING WINTER, IT'S A LIFE SAVER. It was easy enough to apply but BE CAREFUL it sticks to the surface really quickly. My apartment went from 60 to 67 degrees within 5 hours. My windows are about 3 1/4 wide by 5 1/4 high. I only used this tape to do the top of the windows so I have quite a bit left over but if I had to seal all 3 windows I would probably need a 2-3 rolls (this is just guessing). The clarity of the tape it good, I barely notice it unless the light is hitting it and creating a sheen. When I'm reading reviews I like being able to see images of the product so I uploaded a photo of how it looks applied to the window frame. Like I said it's barely noticeable (I guess that's why there are no review photos up of it) so I put my fingers over the width of it to show where the tape is. For this window I was lazy to make it fit in the crease of the window so there's a gap but I guess that creates a little insulation pocket. ... show more
