Usually I don't buy stuff like this, but who doesn't love Johnny 5 and this just makes me happy. It's a great little kit that, while not difficult, provides a great deal of building fun. I got this item on sale so the price was great. I wouldn't say this is the most durable "toy" but I bought it to be a static model for my office and it just looks great. This Johnny 5 model provides just the right balance of movie accuracy combined with a lego feel that's just so much fun. There is another model in this price range floating around out there but that one just doesn't seem to capture the spirit of Johnny 5 in my opinion while this one hits the mark. If your looking for a highly accurate movie quality replica this isn't it but you can expect to pay $$$ for something like that. It's great for building with the kids too. It's perfect! Although I THOUGHT the kit was missing a piece or two, it turns out that everything was included and I was even left with a few extra pieces that came in handy later. To begin with, I used about 4-5 parts trays to empty the pieces into. As you go, you will see which pieces you may feel need super glue. For example, I decided to super glue the the large wheel cover panels together as one piece that can ultimately be removed from the wheels if needed, without the smaller pieces of the wheel cover panels coming off in the meantime I noticed some users saying that the parts don't stay together. This was not my experience, everything snapped together pretty well for the most part, no complaints here. For movie accuracy, I turned the orange pistons at the neck area inward instead of outward as the directions advise. For clearance, I simply used the two leftover green pieces and it worked out perfectly. The size of this robot is perfect for displaying unless you specifically want something much larger. It also looks better and is more accurate than some of the others out there. ... show more

Such a fun little buy and build. I will have to admit I got lucky having some extra lego pieces on hand. One of the track pieces wasn't fully processed and the lego piece snapped right in and pulled it all together. The pictures don't lie about the trunk/torso pieces not sticking together. They kind of do, but they flex apart. If you don't plan on "Disassemble"ing him, then just super glue it together. Oh yeah, they instructions are easy and all that, but one correction... Step 121 and 146 are mirror images of each other, but if you follow exactly, then you will notice a different side of the interior wheel showing on them. They should look like Step 146 for both. The set has some fitment issues. A couple pieces were missing. Patience and super glue, it turned out well All and all, I love this set.

    • Decent but not perfect
I was a kid in the 80s and loved SC1+2. So I had to get this when I saw it was on sale for BF. Was a fun nostalgia trip down memory lane and really makes me want to watch the movies again.. Been building Lego for like 40 years and have built many knock off Lego as well. So I'll break it down in a quick pros/cons Pros: Coloring is good and overall is a decent representation of Johnny 5. Price is fair Pieces seem solid. They don't feel too different than the Legos you're used to. Coloring is good as well. Decent representation of J5 for the money. He feels solid, although his shoulder gun and the way it attaches is kinda lame. So I guess that parts a mixed bag 😉 Cons: The instructions miss key steps and don't really show things properly. Usually these issues are found out a step down the line when you better understand where the build is heading. Can be frustrating at times - even for seasoned Lego heads. Pieces are missing. Bags are all numbered for top/bottom. Would be better to further break down bag#s I to smaller build steps. Like these are for the head, this bad for the hands, etc. Packaging is very basic/bland. They really could do a lot better here, especially for the collecting aspect. ... show more
