Take only a small bit at a time. Start very near the edge. DO NOT drill this into the center. Be Cautious for the reversing torque.

The key to using this is that you need a drill with Torque and low speed I use a cheap Harbor Freight Drill (about $60) but importantly its a high torque low speed drill. that keeps it going nice and slow and it splits the wood with ease, just aim for smallish chunks and start at the end of the wood not in the middle. I have to split my oak logs into little 1 by 4 inch logs for my pizza oven and it works great for this purpose. I've only used it a few times so can't comment on durability but seems well constructed.

I bought this during the winter and decided to use it recently to help out a friend who had a tree fall down in his front yard. It’s just not effective. I stared with a perhaps a foot wide piece of wood and scaled it down to a half a foot and then a 1/4 of a foot and it just kept getting stuck after the first few turns. Albeit, I couldn’t use my impact drill because I needed an adapter for the bit but I just didn’t feel like giving energy to something I didn’t think would work. Furthermore I watched a YouTube video of a guy who used several impact drills and one was corded and it did not work. Don’t waste your money.

Did not work for me. mostly using it on oak logs. The drill bit got stuck allot and the drill eventually started smoking... your experience may be different if you using a softer wood.

I've used these before on a bigger scale, and wanted one to split up kindle wood. THESE THINGS ARE DANGEROUS so if you don't know what you're doing, don't bother getting one unless you want a trip to the ER. I run it on my right angle super hog, no your cheapo battery drill will not put up with it. Works very well when used properly boaring into the side of a log. They are not designed to go in the ends.

Rough but will work well for splitting dry firewood already cut to length. I also bought and tested two cheaper, narrower ones. Both of them had a greater tendency to get lodged into the wood, and when you try to remove them, the shank unscrews off the bit, whereas on this one the shank is welded in.

Not real thrilled wouldn't recommend it. It's a lot harder use than the videos make out to be flew off and down there killed me the first time I tried to use it so be careful.
