I ordered this $47 hundred-foot 3/8-inch self-sinking Mqidlife aeration hose (Amazon ASIN B0DP34ZY8L) for a solar project where I need to run water a few hundred feet using a solar-powered 12VDC water pump. The fact that this hose comes with 8 stainless steel hose clamps and 4 menders indicates the company understands this hose is intended for DIY projects, where multiple hoses will likely be connected. As soon as the hose arrived, I weighed it, and it weighed 11.6 pounds, which means it's about 0.116 pounds per foot or about 1 and 7/8 ounces per foot (or about 53 grams per foot). I measured the outside diameter of this hose at 1/2 inch and the inside diameter at about 3/8 inch, with the outside black protective layer being very thin (less than the width of a credit card) and the rest being the white inner lining. The amount of water displaced by the outer dimensions will be 235.62 cubic inches, which would be about 8 and 1/2 pounds of water. Since the hose weighs 11.6 pounds when filled with air, it will sink, as it's 141.16% heavier than the water it displaces (or roughly about 1 and 1/2 times the weight of the water it displaces). It’s clear the hose will sink even faster when filled with water because the inner dimension of 133.25 cubic inches filled with water will make the hose plus water weigh 16.41 pounds (which is about twice as heavy, when filled with water, as the weight of the water it displaces). I received the 3/8 Inch Self Sinking Aeration Hose, 100 Feet, and it's made of good quality material. The hose is heavier than standard hose, which is beneficial for irrigation as it stays in place when the water turns on. I'm using it for misting and drip irrigation, and it's working well. However, I have a significant concern - finding compatible connectors and misting options in 3/8" size has been extremely difficult. Connectors like L, T, Y, and F are readily available in 1/4" and 1/2" sizes, but 3/8" options are scarce. I would recommend producing more connectors in this size or considering a different hose interior diameter size to make it easier for customers to find compatible parts.

I have had air hose that wouldn't stay submerged, and I have had better hose that got chewed on by rodents. Trying to find a good replacement option is a little tough because you never know for sure what you are going to get. This is a good hose though it is not heavy rubber - more a tough rubberized vinyl. The quality of the material feels good but a bit stretchy. I will have to see how well is survives in the pond for a year or two, but my initial take is that this is good stuff.
