I like to take a fire pit with me when camping. It beats digging a hole and provides more warmth over a greater area. I made a firepit out of an old dryer tub that I thought was cool, but my wife said it looks janky (like an old dryer tub). I finally put it in the scrap metal recycling pile and got this thing. It works perfectly. Easy to put together (easier the second, third, fourth, etc. time) and also packs away nicely in the included carry bag. The steel is thick and high quality, so it's not going to degrade quickly. The carry bag is equally high quality and should hold up well unless you abuse it (or put it in there while it's still hot). I love the size- it's perfect for me. Great for heat and for cooking food. I'd burn it a bit before cooking on it though, as it has the typical machine oil burning smell for an hour or so when first using it. Maybe let that stuff burn off before cooking your hot dogs. I was absolutely shocked at the weight of this fire pit. It's heavier than my larger fire pit, and I know why. This one is made of a much higher grade steel. It's way thicker, and I consider this an absolute plus. The thickness ensures it will not warp, even after hours of burning. Assembly takes a bit to figure out, holding things while inserting the next piece, and the final side panel is a bit tricky. But once together, and the cotter pins added, the whole things is very sturdy and will not collapse under the weight of your burning material. I'd caution against trying to move it while fully assembled. It's possible, but it can still flex a bit if twisted, and you could end up working a slot joint loose. There are double the amount of cotter pins than are needed for assembly, so you can put it together a good number of times before you run out. Unbending used pins is recommended for reuse. They should not be thought of as "one and done" parts for something like this. ... show more

Very nifty design. The whole thing breaks down into a small 12x6" carry bag. Each panel kind of hook and loops together with securing pins, forming the final assembly. Put together, it is a very acceptable size (even for larger logs), weighty, but not so much that it is difficult to transport, and feels it will hold up under use. Only issue was some difficulty getting tabs to line up in machined slits, as if the slits were just not quite big enough...so maybe bring a mallet. ... show more
