The block itself is gorgeous. The knives are sharp. I haven’t tried all of them yet, but so far each one has been as sharp as the last. I have to echo some reviewers who said the block was not slanted enough to get the longer knives out when this is stored under a standard cabinet. That is true. I need to move it forward to get those back knives out. So as long as you are armed with the information, you can decide if it will be a problem for you. I would not hesitate to give this as a gift as well. It was well packaged, the block in bubble wrap, each knife in a separate sleeve. The block is heavy, but the knives are light and easy to handle. Overall this seems like a pretty decent set of knives. They're definitely sharp, but the blade is very thin and I'm not sure how long they'll keep their sharp edge. I'm just concerned that I will have to sharpen these more often. The knives are lightweight, but still weighted well. They fit in my hand nicely so I get a good grip for cutting. The wooden knife block looks nice and has a nice stain. The block also has a more sleek design than my older knife block; however, now the knife block is not angled enough. This makes the back 3 knives in the block difficult to pull out if you have the block under a cabinet. Most people are going to want to store the knife set on a countertop that is more than likely going to have wall cabinets above it. We have standard height counter/wall cabinet height ratio and the block has to be either pulled out or tipped in order to pull out the taller knives towards the back of the block. If you don't pull out the block or tip it then the knives won't clear the underside of the cabinets. This isn't a deal breaker, but it is an annoyance. I like the knives for the most part, but I wish the small pairing knife had a slight curve to the blade near the handle like most other pairing knives tend to have. This pairing knife is just a simple straight edge. The steak lives has a nice sharp serrated edge. The bread knife is a good length with a different serrated edge. These are the best knives I've used. They're extremely sharp (borderline scary sharp), comfortable to hold and beautiful to look at -- from the knife block to the individual knives. I've heard and seen many knives advertised as the sharpest and so far this set from KnifeSaga lives up. As far as lasting power, these knives have been retaining their sharpness even after a number of uses that would normally require sharpening for my old set of knives. Overall, what you get in the kit is a fantastic set of cooking/kitchen knives and steak knives that already feels like it'll last years and makes slicing fun. If it doesn't, then you get the peace of mind of their lifetime warranty. About the only thing that was less than perfect was the scissor. Compared to the knives, which were all solidly cast as a single piece, the scissor, whiles sharp, had plastic handles that just took away from the aesthetic of the entire set. For me, it ultimately didn't matter bc I had a solid SST scissor that I replaced so everything still looked consistent. ... show more

My previous kitchen knife set was a cheap set I picked up 5 years ago when moving into my house. A few knives were missing because they broke. The scissors were never the best. All that to say - I didn't realize just how bad and cheap that old set was until I received this set. These are made of quality material and feel very durable. They're sharp and cut easily, including the scissors. I like that it has a knife sharpener built right into the holding block - convenient! The block that holds them has an anti-slip bottom so it doesn't move around on my counter when pulling the knives out or putting them back in. It's a nice solid block with some nice weight to it.
