  • For the price, a great TV antenna, despite non-modular design
I did a comparison of 3 different amplified indoor antennas, as I wanted to find one to use in a basement apartment (and I intended to gift the second place antenna to my brother-in-law). The three that I chose were as follows: Mohu Leaf 50 Amplified HDTV Antenna - $40 at the time of purchase 2024 Gesobyte Amplified HDTV Antenna - $30 at the time of purchase YUAKUOD Amplified HD Digital TV Antenna - $19 at the time of purchase (with coupon) For reference, I live in a town between Washington DC and Baltimore, MD. I used my 43" Samsung LCD TV that I got back in about 2010. I plugged in each antenna into the TV one by one, and hung them in approximately the same place on the wall just to the side of the TV, had the TV scan through the available channels, did a brief scan through the channels too: Mohu Leaf 50 - Far and away both the most expensive of the bunch, yet also the best performing of the bunch. The package contained the antenna, separate coaxial cable, amplifier with both a coaxial output and a USB cable for power, a USB power plug, and pins and adhesive pads for securing the antenna. In my channel scan, my TV found 40 channels through the Mohu. Picture quality was quite good, with only a couple channels appearing pixelated at first, but then finding a decent picture quality. Another feature that I liked about this one was that it was completely modular, particularly in the way that the coaxial capable was completely detachable. This way, if any other part fails, it's easy to pop in a replacement. Gesobyte Antenna - This one was definitely a middle performer. It wasn't obscenely expensive, and it still performed decently. This model is completely non-modular; all the components are connected to one another, such that if one piece of this malfunctions, you will have to replace the whole thing. It also came with some 3M adhesive pads for securing the antenna. The Gesobyte Antenna found 35 channels. It struggled a bit with the channels on the higher end, but was eventually able to get something of a picture. Maybe not the best picture quality, at least in comparison to the Mohu, but passable. YUAKUOD Antenna - This is equivalent to your bargain basement antenna both in terms of price and performance. It does offer some level of modularity in that you have the option of plugging the antenna straight into the TV without the amplifier if you wish; however when I tried this, I was only able to (barely) get 2 channels in my basement area. With the amplifier plugged in, I was able to find about 18 channels, significantly less than either the Gesobyte or Mohu. There was also significant struggle to get any sense of a picture, especially at the higher channel numbers. It's also worth noting that while each of the options here depended on a USB cable to power source, this was the only one of the three that did not include a USB power plug. Final verdict: I guess you really get what you pay for, at least with this set. The Mohu Leaf, a little more than double the price of the cheapest option, was far and away the performance leader. However, if you want to spend a little less money and don't require EVERY channel in the spectrum, the Gesobyte and does respectable performance. ... show more

  • No need for live tv subscription.
Works great. Easy set up, scanned channels and 29 channels at first. Rescanned again and it had 72 channels. I'm in the L.A. area. The channels are crystal clear. No need for hulu live or youtubetv live. I saved a lot of money ordering this.. I will order 2 more.

  • High Quality-It works great!
I live in a mountainous area where reception is difficult. I have tried several antennas, with amplifiers. Some didn't work at all. Some halfway worked. This antenna works great. It picks up 17 channels, 13 of those clearly, which is amazing. It doesn't pixel, except on a few channels, which I have never been able to get with any antenna. It's a good size, and has a built in adhesive so it will stick to the wall, once you figure out where you want it. Amplifier worked great off my USB plug in on my TV. Very durable, long, cord. Nice and flat and has a nice look. ... show more

  • Cheap antenna that works pretty well depending on location
Found around 20 channels in my location. Seemed to have been opened. Quality seems questionable but also a reasonable price for what it is.

  • Works for me!
I have a treadmill with TV attached. Unfortunately there is no antenna outlet even close so as I dropped using Cable TV years ago and went to OTA Antenna on the roof (which works BRILL...) I needed a separate antenna for the treadmill. Due to having a Stucco home (chicken wire all over the outside which acts as a Faraday cage for TV reception) I need a window mountable indoor antenna. Had an old one laying around... but while it worked with a 30ft extension cable... there were a number of OTA channels (some favorites) it could not find. I've put up with this for a few years and finally decided to investigate getting a new indoor antenna. I went online and searched and found one that everyone recommended BUT when I went to Amazon there were 2 varieties available, one non amplified and one amplified. How the heck do I know which will work??? Looking at other products I came across this one with tons of reviews. It has an amplifier but can be switched so decided to take a chance on this one FYI. I live about 25 miles from the TV Towers Arrived last night. I didn't replace everything... First off I just mounted it in the window where the old one was and didn't even add the 5v PSU.. I just connected it to the existing 30ft antenna extension cable to the TV on the Treadmill and turned on the TV. Without doing anything all the existing channels that previously worked were still clean. Next I started a channel search (Indoor Antenna PSU still not plugged in). It pulled in loads more channels although if you know anything about OTA, many are "scrambled" or stuff I care less about. However it did for the first time bring in the favorites that I was missing. But there was a problem. A couple were not clear and digitally breaking up. So plugged in the PSU and got the Orange light (Short range). Worked a little better but not great. Switched to Distant (green light came on) and that solved all the problems. I have not as yet rescanned with the Antenna and PSU in the current state (plugged in and green light)... cos it ain't "broken" so leaving it asis. I know the OTA channels on my main TV using a roof mounted antenna and I have all those now on my treadmill TV so as far as I'm concerned, this works great for what I needed. Any cons? Well being picky... I don't like the idea of "sticking" the antenna to the window. I like the ability to clean the windows so I have it loosely leaning against the glass. It's a flexible piece of "plastic". It would have been a little better if it was a tad more rigid and also if it had an the ability to add an optional stand (My old one that didn't work as well had both these features). So as I said, being picky. However it works great and I was actually impressed that even pumping the signal through an additional 30ft antenna cable (from the amplifier to the TV) didn't affect the reception. If things change in the future I'll update the review but for me and for now, it does exactly what I was looking for. Very pleased with purchase. UPDATE: ~~~~~~~ I decided to rescan the TV even though everything was now working great.. it brought in about a dozen more channels. I've been so limited on TV channels using an older indoor antenna and now I get all the exact same channels that my roof antenna gets for my main TV. This thing works in my environment and distance from TV Towers. Awesome ... show more
