Ensure the lid is accurately closed and the opening end of the bag is correctly installed into the vacuum chamber. Check if the bag is punctured and if the foam sealing gasket is deformed or cracked. Please remove the gasket and put it back on the opposite side and try again with your hands pressing the lid to help the vacuum chamber to be airtightened. Make sure the power cord is not damaged and correctly plugged into the electrical outlet and appliance.

This vacuum sealer works great overall and has become a staple in my kitchen for keeping meats fresh much longer. The vacuum function is strong and consistent, and it seals bags quickly and reliably most of the time. I did run into a minor issue with the sealing stripit, which caused some weak seals. I reached out to customer service, and they handled it promptly and professionally. They sent a replacement part. Needed replacement for my old Seal-a-Meal (10 years wasn't bad). This one is similar, only more options for bag thickness, seal-only, etc. and it's WAY quieter. I don't use often, maybe every Costco visit to freeze bulk veggies, raw meat, seafood and home made lunchmeat (trying to stay away from chemicals). Not sure what they mean by thick vs thin bags, i sent a request to clarify (i.e., are the included bags thick, med or thin?) Haven't heard back. You have to press pretty hard to lock machine for sealing. Maybe my imagination, but it seems to have a slight curve after it locks. Anyway, using 8 of my vac bags, the machine sucked air out and sealed like a charm. I checked freezer this morning, no leaks. Cutting blade is a good option to trim bags (i know, scissors work fine, but it's convenient). Cutter grip is tiny and wobbly, not much different from cutting dispenser plastic wrap. Anyway, hoping this one lasts for years.

Pretty nice for the price

The unit is nice and compact and the instructions are pretty straightforward. I struggle a bit to get a quick seal every time, but I think it is a result of the foam seal coming loose, since it is not secured. Sometimes it works great, other times it takes me several times to get a quick sealed bag.

great machine at a very good price

I've had a more expensive vacuum sealer for many years but it finally stopped working. This one works just as good as the one that I'd had, for a lot less money. When sealing wet foods like soups, stews, etc., I found that it's much easier to divide the soup into meal size portions, put them into containers (I used to use the bowls that margarine came in, back when I used margarine), then toss them into the freezer for a few hours or overnight. Take them out of the freezer and pop the frozen soup out of the container and put into a sealer bag and seal it up. Much less mess that way since the liquid won't be sucked into the machine.

Piece of junk

I searched for hours and hours on Amazon looking for a food sealer. I read all the reviews for different food sealers and I wasn't looking to spend a lot to seal a bag. I purchased this food sealer for $25 it worked perfect the first time and then after that it stopped sucking all of the air out. So now when I use it there are huge air pockets inside the bag and I push the air with my hand out as it seals and still leaves big pockets of air. Normally I don't do reviews on Amazon but I am extremely unhappy do not care about a refund I'm going to take the sealer and smash it with my favorite hammer go back on Amazon and buy $150 food sealer do not waste your time on cheap ones no matter what the reviews say save yourself the time and hassle I'm sitting here trying to bag up beef jerky that I made in my Amazon food dehydrator and I can't do that because this food sealer leaves air pockets.

Seems to work just fine

Used for the first time today to repackage a large bag of frozen breakfast sausages into smaller bags. The bags I used were a bit thin so the first one I sealed (set on "medium" thickness) melted a couple small holes in the seal, so I resealed it on "thin" setting. Apparently the thickness of my bags varied as later one of them would not seal unless set back on "medium" thickness. Only the first time sealing did it smell "hot" (only to be expected); after that it was fine. My wife was my "sous-chef" so we proceeded quite quickly and had no problem with over the unit heating. Our only issue was that she had to really work to press down hard on the lid to get it to lock closed. I thought it was interesting as I activated the warranty today, I got confirmation that it was activated on the date ordered from Amazon rather than the date of delivery. 7 months later: Used for the second time today, again to repackage those frozen pre-cooked breakfast sausages from Costco. Had trouble at first getting a good seal. After several attempts it appeared there were a few areas along the strip that were not sealing and other areas that were melting holes. Upon closer inspection those areas not sealing corresponded to ever so slight "elevations" under the sealing strip. We found an on-line video about replacing the sealing strip (it's like a piece of tape that apparently diffuses the heat). I peeled up the strip and found those bumps were thin layers of what appeared to be some sort of adhesive. Rubbing with my finger and with the aid of alcohol on a Q-Tip I was able to remove the offending material. After then replacing the strip and setting the bag type to "thick" the sealer seemed to work. There were two more "quirks": I had to check the bag thickness setting every time because it would often, but not always, revert back to "medium". Also, there were times when I pressed "vacuum/seal" it would not vacuum but just simply seal. I guess for the price I shouldn't complain too much.

There is a learning curve when using a vacuum sealer.

The sealer strip started to melt the bag. It got red hot and started to smoke up. I had to quickly unplug it. It was under the one year warranty they replaced it quickly. I talked with joy at customer service she was very helpful. I asked her if she would replace it with an updated model. She said as long as I would do a review regarding this issue. They do stand behind the product. I will do an update after using the replacement. Just remember if you want the bag to seal make the bag about 3"to 4" in longer than you think you need the bag has to sit flat on the ceiling strip.
