  • Best Upgrade from a Quest or Quest 2
Im a PCVR kinda guy. I started off using a Quest 2 at first because of the pricepoint. Lets face it, the Quest 2 just has an unbeatable pricepoint with its functionality. However, one large issue burdens the Quest 2, and thats the PC performance. Since the Quest 2 is a standalone headset first, when you use it with your PC, it has to compress everything your PC is doing and transfer all the data to the Quest 2 via the link cable (or airlink). However, when you are using a dedicated PCVR headset, this issue is thrown right out the door. And whats the next cheapest, still supported headset on the market? The HP Reverb G2. The HP Reverb G2 is a marvel of HP engineering, featuring the best per-eye display on the market right now. I am not joking when I say that, when I put on this headset, its like Im looking at my monitor. Crisp, clear display, 0 screen door, and a whole lotta image resolution quality. If I ever work from home, 9 times out of 10 I am using my Reverb to do my work in VR. Thats how good the display is, this headset makes me want to use it whenever I can. On top of the amazing image quality, the PC performance is nothing but smooth sailing, like taking a vacation to the west cape of Cabo and enjoying a nice drink while staring out at the calm ocean waters. This headset relies entirely on your PC hardware to do all the heavy lifting without any of the unnecessary post-processing that the Quest 2 requires when using it on your PC. If the image quality and performance werent enough, then let me add that the setup was easy too. Within half an hour, I was inside my usual games like H3VR, VRC, or Demeo. The one downside this headset has is the controllers. The controllers are an IMMENSE downgrade from probably anything on the market, the Quest controllers included. For whatever reason, this controller has less sensors than even the Quest controllers, and on top of that the battery life is just abysmal. If you buy this headset, you will NEED to buy a set of rechargeable AA batteries, otherwise you will easily burn through 4 in a single play session. ... show more

  • referbished product sold as new
i got my headset after a month of waiting on shipping. i plug it in and install hp horrible support softwhere bc even tho this says its the newest headset, its not. the cable was faulty. to my surprise there was only 7 moths left on the warranty. so not only was my headset faulty i could not return it to amazon bc it took 35 days to ship and it was no longer covered. as for the hp reverb G2 this vr head set is junk. the connecting cable often comes loose and falls out or the sound cuts out or distorts the eye pieces. yes i was able to get the newest version of the cable that was going to fix all of my problems but it did not. the clarity is sub par at best, you can find "mods" online where people are removing the face foam that is attached to the headset with magnets completely and just putting foam on the headset it self. i have tried this and it does in fact make the G2 look a lot better. but now you have the cord annoying bushing into your head. the G2 was a good attempt at a vr head set but its not worth more than 300 bucks. the controllers are the worst vr controllers that i have ever used and the unit it self just feels like its made from cheep materials. im assuming the high price tag is bc the collaboration with windows mixed reality. ... show more

  • Clear image
Unfortunately my system only lasted 3 months. Day three the right hand controller B button just stopped working. Third month I ended up with a Grey screen and the tracking is horrible. I loved to play onward but no matter what you do the controllers will still wander. It is cheaply made.

  • Good and bad
I really liked the clarity that these glasses have. They just have bad software or connection or something. It was like after an hour of flying if I started again I would have to get the glasses working again properly without getting a gray screen after a couple of weeks I gave up and sent them back. I think they need to upgrade the cable or something. ... show more

  • Likely a Good Product But….
I recently bought a top of the line gaming PC and bought the Reverb G2 to go with it. The HP Reverb G2 i received appeared to be new in box and was well packaged. Plugging it into power i got a power signal light on the switching box indicating it was drawing power. Plugging the dp cable into the dp port on the back of computer was where trouble started. The computer doesn’t seem to recognize the device as being connected at all. I tried all other ports on PC and also tried connecting the usb c to a standard USB port via the included adapter. Having done a great deal of troubleshooting on this, I am fairly confident the problem lies with the cable design. If you looked into it, what you’ll find is that this problem was common enough that HP had to issue an internal EA (engineering advisory) for the issue that they decided to resolve by shipping a-reworked replacement cable to customers with the issue…and there’s apparently a lot of us. So far so good, I’ll just get the replacement cable, right? I contacted HPs customer service and was told they would go ahead and ship me my cable. Then I was emailed by HP two hours later saying they wouldn’t ship the replacement cable because I had purchased the item on Amazon, unless I could provide a proof of purchase. I contacted the seller (HappyRanger) to get an emailed copy of my receipt/proof of purchase, but the seller has refused pointblank to email that to me or provide any documentation of the transaction whatsoever. Lessons Learned: 1. Although I purchased this through Amazon, the shipper was HAPPY RANGER. NEVER DO BUSINESS WITH HAPPY RANGER——for any reason. They have that low 81% satisfaction rating for a reason and Amazon should know better than to use them as a shipper at all. 2. HP Customer Service is totally useless and seem to spend most of their time seeking for exceptions or excuses that allow them to not actually have to provide customer service. Example? If you apparently buy any HP device on Amazon, they consider it a “gray market” and will void the warranty and then not do anything further to help you. 3. A bit of a rant here I know, but I even offered to buy one of the new cables so my HP Reverb G2 might be able to get up and running. HP customer service has yet to get back to me on where or how I could purchase one of the improved cables. I’m waiting for their email reply suggesting I buy it from HAPPY RANGER. Overall, this was an expensive purchase and is the single most disappointing and frustrating experience I’ve ever had with Amazon, an Amazon seller, and HP customer service. (I’ve always had good luck with HP products in the past). Conclusion: Buy the Reverb (if you are ok with the knowledge that HP Customer service is not what it was even 3 years ago) but don’t buy it on Amazon, as they may use Happy Ranger to ship it to you and you’ll then be right where I am…$700 down without a working VR headset right out of the box. ... show more
