  • Well made, good instructions, comes with steel wool for cleaning
The media could not be loaded. Very nice immersion heater kit, I like that it comes with: 1. Clear instructions on safe & reliable use in a booklet & on the box 2. Steel wool for cleaning hard water scale deposits off the heating coil from boiling hard water 3. A free digital thermometer! Though it is not waterproof & this is not explicitly mentioned, if you drop the digital battery thermometer display in the water, it will break. Heating element is fully potted & hermetically sealed in resin for safety. It is a good heating element for the money, a very simple design that does not let you automatically regulate the heating temperature, a temperature controller would probably double the cost & without very good sealing would be the 1st part to break. You must understand that they are designed to be intrinsically safe where if they get too hot from being plugged & not submerged in water, an internal fuse or thermistor sealed in the epoxy cuts current to the heating element so you don't risk a home electrical fire. I have broken these immersion heaters before, when all the water boils off they die in a few minutes. Do not leave these unattended they will not automatically turn off they will just burn out to save your home from electrical fire risk. As far as finding a version of this immersion heater but with a digital temperature regulator & resetting fuse, something long term reliable will cost 4-5x as much as this. Remember that electronics hate moisture & heat, electronics may be cheap, but insulating the electronics from moisture & the high heat not cheap. ... show more

  • Simple and works if you know what you want--description is useless
This is a simple device. So far, I've not been electrocuted, no fuses have been blown, and the water gets warm. It seems to be a well made item and functions according to the specs claimed in the product description. I probably don't need to preach safety to you--but I am going to remind you to read what this can and cannot do so you don't expect too much. The word salad in the description claims it will heat 5 gallons in a few minutes, then it claims it will take it to 104 degrees in 30 minutes, then there is this gem that says everything and nothing: "Different from ordinary bucket heaters, this water heater is lighter and smaller in appearance, and is very suitable for concrete work, farm, car snow removal, wallpaper, winter washing, camping, travel, etc." We use it to boost bathtub water to around hot tub temp. Takes anywhere from 10 minutes to a half hour, depending on how full and what the starting temp is. Bottom line is that it works but user experience may vary--it is a SMALL heater! ... show more

  • Works great!
So my review of it might not be similar to most, because I’m heating a lot of water from a really low temp to start, so it takes me much longer to get to temp. But I have a cast iron tub outdoors under my orchard trees that I fill with hose water, let this sit in it for the afternoon, and it’s ready by evening time. It works great, is easy and straight forward to use, just make sure you follow the safety precautions. Would recommend! ... show more

  • A Quality Water Heater - BE CAREFUL!
I did a quick test of this device when I received it by heating a large PLASTIC tub of water. It got it very warm, very quickly, and the thermometer seems to function correctly. The heater seems to be well made, and I expect it to last for a long time. However, as another reviewer pointed out, please be very careful. When you have 110 volts ac and water, the potential for a tragedy exists. Just imagine what could happen if you were in a bathtub and an electric hairdryer, radio or another device was knocked into the water. This heater is obviously made to operate underwater, but with a damaged cord, your safety could be at risk. Just practice good safety precautions and you'll be fine. ... show more

  • Nice immersion heater; use appropriate caution. Confusing and possibly dangerous advice in manual.
The Amazon webpage provides a good description of the product. It clearly states that it cannot be used in a metal vessel. Other precautions include unplugging it before putting your hand or other body part in the water. It's 2000 watts; should be faster to heat water than other similar immersion heaters that use only 1500 watts (I did not do a comparison test of this). It has a chrome metal cylindrical guard around the heating element, a plus. It does not have a switch or timer; unplug it to turn it off. Also included is a stainless scrubber to clean the device after use, and a probe thermometer. The thermometer works well, but only in Celsius, reading to 0.1 degrees C.; if there is a way to convert to Fahrenheit, I cannot figure it out. It runs on 2 LR44 batteries and I find no off switch. I'll update when I determine how long the batteries last. My primary concern is with safety. These devices are inherently dangerous in that if they are left plugged in without being immersed in water, they can overhead very quickly, and there is no on-off switch- the only way to de-energize the heating element is to unplug it. The product manual states that it is normal for the cord to get hot during use. It further states that an "extend cord" can be used to reduce the temperature of the cord if needed. I am not an electrician, but I know that safe use of high current appliances does not allow use of extension cords, and that if the appliance cord gets hot, something is not right, and potentially dangerous. The Amazon webpage also states not to use an extension cord, but most people will read instructions rather than referring back to the web page after receiving the heater. One more issue: the webpage states that the device has a thermostat to maintain temperature as an anti-scald feature. The box states automatic power-off anti-scalding protection. There is a "Specifiction" sticker on the box which says "NON-AUTO." I don't trust it enough to test. I tested my unit and it worked fine. The cord is a heavy duty grounded cord with molded plug. It heated the water quickly and the cord did not get more than very slightly warm. I can't give more than 2 stars to a potentially dangerous device that may or may not have an advertised safety feature on the box and manual, and has contradictory and potentially dangerous advice re use of "extend" cords in the manual. ... show more
