Easy to use mechanical pencil right out the box!!! Hold it like a pen, and it sticks to steel just like soap stone!!!! It is very brittle though, so you have to be very careful with it! If I never would have used a different brand I'm sure I would have thought these were okay. However, I've used the Markal brand And when you compare these to those it's not even the same. The refill material is harder and does not Mark with a deep rich color like the Markal does. They're also different size and they will not interchange. If you're serious about fabrication, go with the Markal Silver-Streak. In the picture that I took, I drew a squiggly line with all three using the same amount of pressure. You have to push incredibly hard with these off-brand ones to get a similar dark line color and half the time it'll break the filament. ... show more

Pencil holder is fine, colored lead is junk. Does not mark on metal at all. Cannot see it what so ever. Would not buy again. Ended up buying the tried and true Markal brand (been using them for years).
