The tang does not go very far into the handle, so just keep that in mind when you have heavy work. If you get a bad catch, you can easily bend the gouge and if you're reckless, you can easily break the handle. If you're careful, you'll be fine. It's true that you get what you pay for especially with lathe tools. This item filled a gap i needed at the time and was satisfactory for my purpose. If I had a greater need for this size item, I might invest a little more in another popular brand. ... show more
