The best 3rd party in the market (edit triggers)

I just finished using these for the last 5 hours testing in a very wide range of video games on the switch & GameCube. I am not a competitive smash bros player, nor do I have the hours most people have in that game, however these perform very well and response is great from what I can tell. Comparing button feel side by side to an OG GameCube controller & latest GameCube (switch) controller, they have very small differences in feel, but the buttons don’t feel mushy like most third party controllers. Battery life seems to be pretty good & they do “sleep” if not moved for about 1 minute. I did have to re-pair them every time I swapped consoles or disconnected the dongle from the console. Have not tested them on PC as they’re mostly for my GC & switch setup. I’ll be buying another 2 for the 4-player game nights as I’m tired of the cords across the room. I don’t think you’re going to find a better replacement than this controller any time soon. edit: having played over 20 different games now with these controllers, i had to remove 1 star due to the triggers. when playing certain games (need for speed) the triggers act as if they are constantly in turbo mode. I haven't troubleshot this issue deep enough to see if there is a way to disable this nor have i contacted the manufacture. when using triggers as accelerator it will constantly cut in and out. I changed the button layout to use as nitrous, however the issue is still present. not a huge deal for now. hopefully there is a fix pushed from the manufacture. UPDATE: seller/manufacture has provided the updated firmware promptly to resolve trigger functionality.

Works on everything

First thing I want to speak about here is the fact that this controller works on more devices than any other controller I can find online. It works on the GameCube, Wii, Wii U (if you have the GC adapter), Switch, and PC. To me that's the biggest factor of this controller and what gives it a leg up. That fact alone makes it a five star because no other product can offer what this does. So I do think there are better GameCube controllers available at a lower price but they simply don't have what this does. If there was any other competition in this type of product, I'd be more hesitant to recommend it. Let's get into why that is. First off the pairing process was initially confusing but once you understand it, it works well and consistently. Then physically, the controller certainly feels third party. The whole thing feels very hollow except for all of the weight at the front bottom area. The shape initially threw me off with how far it extended down but after using it more, it might actually maybe more comfortable because it has a spot for your fingers to rest (like an Xbox 360 contoller). The buttons and the d-pad are pretty mushy, especially the d-pad. The sticks are okay, and the triggers feel like GameCube triggers. And a small thing is that the atomic purple is a bit washed out looking. So overall I feel like this could be a great product if they made a version 2 that used more premium materials and upgraded buttons. As of right now though, it does what it needs to as the only product of its kind.

Better than the Wavebird controller?

Turns out I found this impressive Wireless Gamecube controllers works on Nintendo Switch and Wii playing on Wii/Gamecube games. In other words, it works on Smash Ultimate, Brawl and Melee. And what makes these wireless controllers different from the Wavebird brand is that it actually has rumble, which responds to both consoles, has a second z button (R1) which works only on Switch games of course, as well as a home button, pic snap button and they don't need batteries, just a rechargeable cable to the dock. Amazingly it even works on Mac as well with certain online games on the web. Besides the rechargeable cable, It comes with a usb blue tooth to connect to the switch dock or mac, while a GC plug attaches to wii or Gamecube. Simply press the buttons on the receiver and controller and they connect. But there maybe a couple flaws. Since it's not really a nintendo brand, there's a few chances that it might not work on all Gamecube games. I mean it pretty much works on all Switch games and NEARLY works on all my Gamecube games except one: Simpsons Hit and Run, which didn't respond to any of the buttons or start button. Simpsons Road rage works yet not Hit & Run, strange. As for Smash Wii U, unfortunately, plunging the GC plug to a Wii U/Switch port to wii u doesn't seem to respond since this is a none Nintendo brand controller. Nor doesn't the USB work on that because that's not how Smash wii u was made to play GC controllers. But other than that, this product is still a great controller to use mostly for Switch, Wii/Gamecube and even Mac or Windows (haven't test it) If you have any of these consoles like I do and want to save space on controllers instead of owning to many of them for separate Nintendo consoles, it's still a good recommendation. Hopefully they're still useful for the next Nintendo console if it can adapt old blue tooth controllers like Joy cons and this one.

An Absolute Must Have

I remember that they tried doing a wireless controller way back around 2004 and it didn’t quite connect well or there was latency with the buttons. Heck I think I still might have the old controller too. But THIS one? Oh man, so responsive, super easy to set up, no headache, just make sure you read the pamphlet to get it connected for the first time, and have fun. The triggers don’t stick, all buttons are durable, played a little casual Melee with it, super great for what you get, especially with that rumble feature. What a gem of a product!

Do you feel lucky?

***TL;DR, an Actually Really Good controller that may or may not have completely useless triggers due to a firmware issue. It may not apply to the controller(s) you get, but that's purely down to luck of the draw for now and I can't in good conscience recommend them*** I bought these controllers intending for my partner and I to use them with my Wii while playing Gamecube games (love that backwards compatibility). The overall quality of the controller is actually really solid (especially for the price), and I haven't had any issues with the connectivity or responsiveness of the controller. The triggers, buttons, and sticks feel good (pretty close to OEM with analogue triggers), the shell has that Gamecube Feel (albeit with a barely noticeable difference in texture), and there's rumble included! In fact, if it wasn't for a specific point of catastrophic failure, I'd wholeheartedly recommend these as a solid, less-expensive alternative to a used Wavebird/OEM controller. ...But therein lies the issue... There's a problem with the L/R triggers where they act as though they're essentially on a Turbo Mode if they're being pressed (registering constantly repeated inputs instead of one sustained input). I did some digging and found a reddit thread that indicated it appears to be a firmware issue the manufacturer didn't catch in time and is applying to future controllers. I've tried fixing the issue and updating the firmware myself, but haven't been able to make it work. It's possible this issue with the triggers will be fixed with future batches of controllers, but for now it's a roll of the dice. The triggers themselves are actually pretty solid, but without that firmware update they're effectively unusable. Not every game is going to be unplayable without functional triggers (my partner and I have had a BLAST with mario party and super monkey ball), but any game that requires them is going to be a nightmare at best (metroid prime, rogue squadron, super mario sunshine, resident evil 4, etc.). Cannot recommend until the firmware issue is resolved

Good controller, responsive buttons, good joy sticks, not connection issues so far.

This is a good way of playing games on a gamecube, switch, or wii. The controller has a pretty good similar feel to a gamecube wavebird. It has the same dimensions but it does feel a bit cheaper. Regardless of that, there is no channel on the bottom of this like the wavebird. You are able to easily plug this device into your system without much issue. It is pretty much a plug and play for your consoles. I was not able to get this detected on my actual PC though so just be aware of that if you want it more for your PC. The USB receiver is more for the switch than PC. I did not really try much to get it to connect on my PC so it could still work. The battery on this is not too bad. I did leave it over night to charge just to be on the safe side before trying to set it up any further. It is pretty much a plug and play. The pairing is already done to both receivers. I have not tried to plug in both receivers at the same time so I am not sure what would happen if I do. The controller is pretty nice and matches the color of the black gamecube while keeping the form of the wavebird. It is able to connect to the switch for all different types of games and works great for smash brothers. The triggers are durable and I love the feel so far. You can definitely tell the material differenced between this and an original wavebird. There does not feel too much of a weight difference between the original and this one. It has a type c port on the top for charging as needed. When comparing to the wavebird or original controller, the device feels pretty nice. The joystick works great and the buttons are responsive. It does not drift or stick which is nice after playing smash brothers for quite sometime. The buttons are not too bad and look pretty close to the oem ones. The buttons do take time to break in in my opinion. as they were a bit stiff. I am able to press the buttons without issues. You can run the controller while it is being charged as well if you need to which is an added bonus. The type c cable cable provided is okay and nothing too special. I found it charges better on a power brick but it can take a few hours to fully charge. You can use it while it is charging. Overall I do enjoy using this controller. It is nice you can use it with your gamecube, wii, and switch. It is pretty nice and not bad but you can tell it does not have the same quality in terms of feel and material as the n64 controller. The receivers are easy is already paired for the most part but the trouble shooting instructions are straight forward. I like you can play on the retro consoles from afar.

Cant beat that price tag.

Just got into the gamecube modsing scene, and needed a few controllers. I originally was interested in a authentic wavebird as my primary controller, and had no luck finding a decent one for a good price. I was skeptical about this being a main option so I purchased this, and a nyxi warrior in case this was junk. For the price you really can't beat this thing. I've hand no connectivity issues so far, the sticks and buttons feel fantastic. And, I didn't realize until the controller was delivered that it has a rechargeable battery inside it and doesn't require AAs. I've been swapping between the 2 controllers, and while the nyxi is alot more premium feeling. If your wanting that nostalgic gamecube controller feel, this thing is a great option. I've had it hooked to my ganecube, and to my pc for dolphin. My only grip with the controller is the triggers. I've noticed that especially when racing, it likes to be held very firmly. I'd buy it again, I'm curious how multiple will act together without the channel splitter of the og wavebird.

Almost perfect, but not quite.

UPDATE: I replaced the triggers with ones from a broken OEM controller and it fixed the problem. It’s now a basically perfect wavebird clone. Tip: Adjusting the tightness of the screws on the back of the controller also changed the feel and input of the triggers. While for the most part this controller actually feels basically identical to a real gamecube controller, the L/R click at the bottom of the triggers is VERY soft, and borderline unnoticeable. Because of this, the controller does not always recognize an L/R input(through the gamecube dongle). This also makes it impossible to hold down L/R without it flickering the input(like a “turbo mode” setting.). This does NOT impact the functionality of the usb dongle, which does not register the L/R and instead uses the (analog)trigger input like a modern controller. For use on PC or Switch, this controller is literally a perfect wavebird clone. Unfortunately, the L/R issue makes the controller basically unusable for any gamecube or wii games that require L/R to be reliably pressed or held down. The analog triggers work fine. As I got this controller mostly for my wii, this is a huge let down. I will still use this for modern games like Nick Brawl 2 though as it feels and works perfectly otherwise. I wonder if the triggers could be replaced with aftermarket replacements or even original gamecube controller triggers to fix this issue, as I’m pretty sure it’s an exact replica as far as the button dimensions.
