    • This is an awesome value for the money!
The media could not be loaded. This is an honest-to-goodness diesel engine, 22:1 compression ratio with a peak output of 3 horsepower (2200 Watts). A little heavier than a gasoline engine of equivalent power but it is because it is built stout. Starting it takes getting used to. You pull the recoil cord until you feel it is at the start of the compression stroke. Now flip the decompression lever. This holds the exhaust valve open so that when you pull the cord, the engine builds up speed, then the decompression lever resets and if you've done it right, the engine starts with a little puff of black smoke. Note that rapidly increasing the speed control will make it "roll coal". The muffler is adequate. It will arrive without oil. It holds almost a full quart. If you want to purge the air out of the high pressure line from the pump to the injector, then hold the decompression lever down and rotate the engine ten times or so... Loosening the flare nut at the injector will show it leak once the line is purged. Then re-tighten the nut. The output shaft is 20mm diameter with a 5mm (0.2 inch) keyway. It does not include the key. Find it at the hardware store. The engine does vibrate a good bit. I placed mine on the ground and started it, and it will dance around especially at low RPM. Interestingly, test running it for 20 minutes and the engine did not get "hot". Only the cylinder head and muffler were too hot too touch. The block was "warm". This was not under load, but still I am convinced the air cooling system is effective. I like this engine so much I have ordered a second one! To deal with the 20mm shaft diameter, what I plan on doing is getting pulleys with 3/4" inside diameter and using a 20mm chucking reamer then using vertical mill to shorten some 5mm key stock (still 5mm width but only 4.5mm tall). There are 20mm ID pulleys available, but nowhere near the assortment of 3/4" available. Hope this helps someone!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ... show more
