Exactly What We Needed for Quick Sewing Fixes

I grabbed this for my wife because we needed something convenient for small, quick sewing repairs, and for that purpose, it does its job well. This isn’t meant to turn you into an overnight fashion designer or replace a full-size sewing machine, but for basic repairs, hems, loose seams, and little fixes, having something this compact and portable is extremely handy. The biggest surprise was how much comes with it. You get the handheld sewing machine, a wooden storage box, plenty of thread and bobbins, needles, pins, scissors, seam ripper, measuring tape, thimbles, needle threaders, buttons, batteries, and other accessories. Having everything organized together means we don’t have to go hunting around for the little supplies every time something needs fixing. I also really like the portability. The machine can run on four AA batteries, so it doesn’t have to be permanently set up near an outlet. That’s convenient when you only need to make a quick repair rather than pulling out a full-size sewing machine and setting up an entire workspace. The wooden sewing box is another nice touch. It keeps all the small pieces together and makes the kit much easier to store when it’s not being used. Just keep expectations realistic. This is a handheld repair tool, not a replacement for a traditional sewing machine, and it’s better suited for light-duty sewing jobs and reasonably thin fabrics than large or heavy projects. You also need to secure the thread after sewing as directed so the stitch doesn’t unravel. At $47.99, I think it’s a useful little repair kit for the right purpose. My wife wanted something she could grab when a quick fix came up, and that’s exactly what this provides. It’s compact, well stocked, easy to keep organized, and saves us from pulling out a full-size machine for every little sewing emergency.

Everything You Need to Learn in One Kit

It has been a while since I’ve used a sewing machine, and I had never used a handheld sewing machine before, so I wasn’t quite sure what to expect. This kit ended up being perfect for getting back into sewing and learning how to use a handheld machine. What makes it especially beginner-friendly is that you aren't handed just the machine and then left to figure out everything else you need. This kit literally comes with just about everything. There are multiple colors of thread, bobbins, needles, pins, scissors, measuring tape, seam ripper, thimble, needle threader, pincushion, buttons, embroidery supplies, batteries and other sewing accessories. I especially appreciate the included stitch book because it gives you something to reference and practice with while you're learning. For someone who hasn't sewn in a while, having all of these supplies together makes getting started much less intimidating. I don't have to dig through old sewing supplies or immediately go shopping for a bunch of little accessories before I can actually use the machine. The wooden sewing box was an unexpected bonus too. Considering the price of the entire kit, I was impressed that they included an actual storage box instead of simply packaging everything in a bag. It gives all of those little sewing pieces a designated home and makes the whole kit much easier to keep organized. You can use the machine with power outlet or batteries (are included). This would be a great starter kit for someone learning to sew, but I also think it's excellent for someone like me who has some previous sewing experience and wants to get back into it. Complete Beginner Kit for Fast Mending and Simple Hems

As someone who had never operated a sewing machine and only stitched by hand, this handheld kit made simple mending projects much easier right out of the box. The wooden storage box arrives fully stocked with everything needed to start, including thread spools, pre-wound bobbins, buttons, pins, needles, and a helpful stitch guide. Setup is very straightforward whether using the included AA batteries or plugging into AC power. Threading is simple, and operating the unit with one hand is quick once you get the hang of it. It takes a little practice to guide the fabric evenly to keep stitches straight, and manually cutting and tying off the thread at the end of each run is essential to prevent unraveling. This machine works best for quick fixes, loose buttons, and simple hem jobs on standard fabrics or single-layer denim up to 1.6mm thick. It is not built to replace a full-size machine for thick, double-folded seams or heavy tailoring, but for portable, immediate repairs, it performs reliably. The version shown is sold as a kit, with the handheld sewer, wooden storage box, heavy scissors, thread cutter, seam ripper, pin cushion, 22 thread spools, 12 threaded metal bobbins, assorted needles, buttons, pins, thimbles, threaders, measuring tape, and a spare machine needle. The handheld machine is really meant for quick repairs, hems, and light DIY work rather than replacing a full-size sewing machine. It can run from four AA batteries or an external power adapter. It’s light portable format is useful for things like curtains or clothing that are awkward to bring to a regular machine. The kit also includes enough traditional hand-sewing supplies that it is still useful even when you don’t need the powered machine. The wooden box even has a good scent to the wood chosen!

I received this handheld sewing machine kit and I was so pleasantly surprised. This kit is packed with tons of goodies in a spacious wooden sewing box. The machine comes with everything you need to tackle small sewing tasks without having to bring out a larger, standard sewing machine. There are tons of needles, pins, threads, bobbins, a fabric scissor and a cute little fabric embroidery book. Everything is packed neatly into the box making this a great gift for anyone who enjoys sewing and crafting. I must admit I am not well versed in sewing so I was a bit overwhelmed by all the materials in this kit. For anyone who knows their way around a sewing machine, however, this kit is sure to please. I have practiced a few stitches on spare material and it was pretty easy to use, even for a novice like me so I’d recommend this sewing kit with no reservations.

This came in a durable latching wooden case with compartments for all your needs. It had plenty of pre wound Robbins as well as additional threads. There is also an embroidery book designed to help you practice different designs. Overall it is easy to use, battery operated and completely portable.

How I wish I had this in high school

This is an amazing kit. I did theater in high school, and this would have saved us so many times on costume repair, but I digress. There is a lot of goodies in this kit, and it's extremely versatile. To start, it can be powered either by USB-A brick with the included cord, or battery powered (4x AA cells included). I would have like to see a rechargeable battery instead but I can probably purchase some rechargeable for use in it, but that's an improvement for a future model. There is more thread in the box than you can shake a stick at, and just a ton of other accessories, including a decent performing set of fabric scissors. The wooden box it all comes in is a really well crafted, as well as a bit of a work of art, and holds everything perfectly. This thing is really inexpensive for what you get. I've played around with it a little, and so far it's performed well. We'll see how well it does when I get to darning a bunch of socks I have, just so I can put it through the paces.

Don't waste your money on this toy, save a bit more an get a real machine

Normally when I review an item I start with a description of that item along with observations that might be helpful to prospective buyers. I’m skipping ahead today. The Handheld “Sewing Machine” is nothing but an overpriced toy. I DO NOT recommend this item. If you really want to accomplish machine-aided sewing, save a bit longer and get a real sewing machine from a brand name manufacturer. You’ll be glad you did. Now on to the more detailed discussion. First, the “sewing machine”. Starting with the good news, it does actually sew. That said, it uses a single thread stitch, no bobbin thread. While that makes it easier to thread the device, it also means that a pull on the thread will unravel your entire stitch line. The microscopically printed instruction page describes a technique for locking the tailing thread to help prevent unraveling, but it’s tedious to do. Using the machine means you dedicate one hand to holding the thing and the other to holding the fabric. While I admit I did not spend a lot of time practicing, it was not easy to guide the fabric through the presser foot to obtain a straight stitch. I’ve been trying to think of a use for a sewing device like this and have come up empty. Second, the box. This product is a kit of 169 items (I’ll take their word on the count. I didn’t even think about checking their count). In my view, the box is the nicest part of the package. Constructed from wood, with a partition inside and a lasered-on name on the top, it’s quite nice. Third, the accessories. Another positive point. There are a LOT of accessories included. A generous variety of threads in an assortment of colors. Many of the threads are pre-wound onto the bobbins that can be used as the thread source for the sewing device. This is not to be confused with a real sewing machine’s bobbin that provides the bottom thread for sewing. So, I would give positive rating for the quantity of accessories, but they don’t make up for the uselessness of the main product, the “sewing machine.” Lastly, the embroidery book. I’m not sure why this is even a part of this kit, but there it is. Note that one accessory they do not bother providing is embroidery floss, which you’ll need to complete the sampler book. Another thing to note, it would be nearly impossible to stitch in the book as-is. The book is assembled with folded-over pages so you cannot get to the back of the page to complete a stitch. If you look carefully at the photos in the product page, you’ll see that someone has cut the pages apart, done the embroidery sample, then stitched it back together. I didn’t see that mentioned in the embroidery instruction “book”, which is one page of 8 ½ x 11, printed two-up.
