  • Don't get this. Do your research. <3
Color: Transparent Blue
This thing is a piece of junk, but not the worst piece of junk like the ones with shovelware kid's janky slop games. It actually has a couple notable Genesis titles. I got it purely because I like wonky handhelds if they have 1 or 2 actual worthwhile playable games. This I saw had Battletoads and Road Rash. The Road Rash included is a Russian version of Road Rash 3 which is.... Charmingly annoying? haha No it does not have Sonic but has a few other entertaining side scrollers. I was really hoping for a tennis game. All in all, your grandchildren will hate you if you buy this for them and and no-one should buy this in general. Actually, the system itself, while being a generic system on a chip "blob" as enthusiasts call it, seems to run the included games at a decent speed. I haven't noticed any agonizing framerates. I am not well versed enough to notice screen tear or even what it is really, but I'd expect this tears like crazy or something. Id, Road Rash 3 motorcycle go brrrrrrr. ... show more

  • Forget Kids, Get this for a Sega Loving Millennial!
Color: Transparent Purple
This 16 bit player gives you an affordable dose of video game nostalgia that you didn't know was missing from your life. Pros: - Small handheld console that comes preloaded with 100 different games! (my husband and I noticed that they were all old Sega games. One of these reviewers was awesome enough to make a complete list. check it out) - It's rechargeable! no need to have a hoard of AA batteries on standby. - bright and clear screen! (its just small) - BUT WAIT, it comes with an RCA connector for an even more authentic experience! WHAT!? Hook that thang up to the TV! - Smooth Play; so far no lag or malfunctioning buttons or anything like that. CONS - Loud Sound. Even the quiet setting is pretty loud. But you can mute it when you turn it all the way down. - WHAT LANGUAGE IS THAT?! No, not all of the games are in English and so far I have not found a way to switch them to English since they're all pre-loaded. I hope you can read Russian and Japanese! - Old Sega Games, YES! But sadly, there are no Sonic games. Or Ecco... Love that dolphin. We were not able to test out the RCA cable since none of our modern TV's have this connection. If you do want to hook it up but have the same dilemma that we do, go ahead and get you an RCA to HDMI converter box. They're pretty affordable. You can find some for less than $10 All in all, this would be a GREAT stocking stuffer for your older millennial gamer. Play it with your kids so they can see these ancient video games for themselves... and you can straight school them. ... show more

  • Take a pass on this Genesis-style handheld
Color: Transparent Purple
I ordered the transparent purple "16 Bit Game Console 2.8-inch Super Wide Lcb Preloaded 100 HD Handheld Video Game." I had previously tried similar handhelds from another Amazon seller and was hoping this one might be a better implementation. While slightly better in a couple of regards, overall it is still not a satisfactory product and not a good value for your gaming dollar. This handheld offers 100 16-bit games that mostly appear to come from the Sega Genesis library. Unless you are trilingual, playing some of the games will be a challenge. Approximately 18 of the games have text in non-English languages (Japanese and Russian, I believe). The Sega games with Russian text may be modifications of the original games? I have included some photos for reference. I was able to get several hours of play time out of the unit in testing. However, when the battery is low, the screen simply blacks out. Not very convenient, but you can play the unit while it is plugged in and recharging. Some of the games appear incomplete. Rambo 3, in particular, does not have any intro screen and just starts on a gameplay screen. The speaker does not offer a fine-tuning volume control, but instead uses a volume button to toggle between three volume levels and a mute setting. To me, the three volume levels were about as follows: "very loud and often distorting", "still pretty loud", "loud", and silent. I ended up using a rubber band to hold some cardboard over the speaker so that I could test this unit without disrupting other people in the room. Also, the unit reverts to the loudest volume setting whenever it is turned on. There is an AV out option which sends audio and video to an external TV or monitor via composite RCA jacks. The audio and video quality were acceptable, and I have included a photo showing the game playing on a TV (via a simple HDMI adapter, not included with the handheld though). Note that although the unit includes six action buttons, the vast majority of the games only use three buttons. Also, the markings on the buttons do not match up to the on-screen designations of A, B, C, X, Y, Z as used in the original programs. Instead, the buttons on the unit are marked A, B, R, Y, X, L. One of the "games" is actually a rudimentary drawing program (Art Alive). That "game" strikes me as something that was probably not well received as a home videogame cartridge, and it is even less satisfactory when you try to use it on a 2.8" screen. So what do you get with this unit? * Less than 100 games in English. * Games that may be incomplete or modified. * A speaker that distorts when the volume is turned up. * No low-battery warning other than the unit shutting the screen off when you are in the middle of a game. Overall, not a very impressive list of attributes. There are surely better options out there if you are a Sega Genesis fan! ... show more
