I bought this tarp to go over my chicken coop for winter. I wanted a clear one so that light would still get through. I recognize that a clear tarp will be different from a standard tarp because it must be made of different materials. I recieved and installed this tarp yesterday. Short story: I feel this tarp is overpriced for what it is. Longer story: I'm pretty thrifty and in the past I've saved our old shower curtain liners and jerryrigged them for use in the coop and yard. This tarp is about the thickness and quality of a "heavy duty" clear shower curtain liner you can buy at Walmart. By the time I got it up and over the coop, it had several small holes that a stronger material wouldn't have gotten. The holes came from snagging on a corner here and there because the material is not stiff like it would be were it thicker, so it drapes over the edges of the coop in a way that a stronger material wouldn't, getting caught on things. This might end up simply being the nature of all clear tarps, given the limitations posed by needing to be clear. The other problem lies with the edging of the tarp. The corners are good and strong, no problem there. The edging of the tarp is a thin plasting webbing, such as you might have found on an old lawn chair in the 70's or 80's, but much thinner. By the time I was done installing the tarp, the grommets I was using for bungee cords were already starting to pull from the edging material. None came out, but I don't see them lasting very long. When the grommets come out, which they will, this tarp will be about as useful to me as my old shower curtain liners. I'm not returning the tarp because we have snow today, and, as poor as it is, I need it to stay over the coop. But when it gives out, I'll be looking for a different clear tarp; I will not buy this one again. The tarp's usefulness over time doesn't justify what I spent on it.

I used this tarp last Winter for part of our chicken run/coop winterization. I had other clear plastic panels from previous seasons, but some had worn out and could not be used again. This tarp was an inexpensive fix for our needs. As the season wore on, it became less transparent (chicken runs are DUSTY), but still let lots of light in and kept the wind out, which were the main goals. This tarp held up nicely, not cracking in the cold or the wind, and we get very cold here in the Northeast! The binding and grommets held up well, being pulled tight so the wind wouldn't baffle the tarp too much. The tarp was up against wood posts and hardware cloth, so movement by the wind was minimal as long as the tarp was taut. During the 'in-between' cold and warm snaps of Winter into Spring, I was able to fold the tarp down for ventilation and attach with tarp clamps zip tied to the hardware cloth, clamped onto the folded plastic, and the tarp did not rip or tear. When the Winter weather finally truly broke, I took down the tarp, and it hosed off well, still intact, and folded up nicely. It is no longer as clear, though, more translucent than transparent now. I'm upgrading to 20 mil vinyl tarps this year, which should stay clearer longer, but this tarp was an excellent, inexpensive, durable choice for my needs at the time, and is still able to be used in the future if needed. The length on this tarp is 13 feet, which is an odd size. I had a 12 ft span to cover, and you can see on the left side of one of the pics where the vertical edge of the tarp is secured with tarp clamps about 1 foot past my 12 ft span. Again, the binding held up well, even being secured and re-secured during temperature fluctuations for ventilation purposes. I do wish that this tarp had more grommets closer together, but tarp clamps made up for any deficit in that area. Overall, pleased with the performance of this tarp for this price point!

This is a great cover to keep the cold wind out of my house! I used hooks where the eye holes were and a heavy board on the bottom. It seals up two windows better than that plastic window stuff. Thick, durable, reusable, and the value for the money cannot be put into words. We are MUCH warmer inside, easy to do!
