I use my rotary tools for a lot of things around the house and in various projects. I have a very nice, heavy duty wired one from the most recognized name in rotary tools, and a few other cordless ones (from different brands) for quick access when needed. One of my more affordable (to put it nicely) would stall out more and more often, making it quite a test in patience. I saw this tool and decided it's worth ordering. Shoot, I've paid nearly as much for some of the bits I use! The tool comes in a hard plastic case that is more appropriate for the home garage rather than on the worksite. The tool itself is a good size, not being too large and unwieldy and has surprisingly good build quality. I really appreciate that it comes with two batteries and a charger, and found I could do quite a bit of work until I had to swap in a fresh battery. The 12V battery gives the tool plenty of grunt, and it took some real ham-fisting to get it to stall even at low speeds. The assortment of bits is more than sufficient for most people, but I have a vast collection of high-quality bits that I use instead. Overall, I'm very satisfied with this tool- even if it's not quite the same quality as the big brand's cordless, it costs so much less that I really couldn't care. This is a good, inexpensive battery powered rotary tool that will work well for the DIYer. I would not purchase this kit for professional use. The kit it complete for your easy-to-do basic home repairs. The rotary tool has a variable speed rotary dial numbered 1-6 & MAX. There is a good speed separation for each increment - making it fairly easy to find the best speed for the project at hand. You have a separate rocker switch for on-off. The tool's feel and handling is what I expected at this price point - "average". The motor noise is not loud and the vibration level is light - you will not have problem controlling this tool even for small movements. You get a varied assortment of tool accessories - although there is not documentation for each item and what specifically they should be used for (Note: it's obvious re: drill bits, brushes, engraving bits, disks - just no easy way to discern sizes or grit levels etc.). The instruction manual, 13 pages long, does not give many pictures/illustrations or viable info for all the accessories - you get some but most - you just have to guess at and experiment. The manual does have (8) pages of different safety warnings - which is nice for a very first timer - but for anyone who has a little experience with hardware and basic home repair, not very useful. There was one important item I encountered, how to remove the battery for recharging/replacing. I read the entire manual looking for a picture or drawing for how to remove - there were none. It turns out you have to depress both red somewhat square shaped buttons - both located just above the "12V" label (see pics) - and pull real hard, it will come off. As another reviewer noted it is difficult to remove the battery. Initially I was concerned I was pushing the wrong buttons. Note: removing the batteries has become easier as I've taken the batteries in and out of the tool at least 50x. The plastic molded case provides an easy to store environment for the rotary tool, charger, both batteries and accessories. The clear plastic accessories case has plenty of room for additional tooling in addition to those provided. Battery operation times are dependent primarily on rotation speed and the amount of pressure you're putting on the bit/disk/brush. I'd expect about 20-30 minutes. The tool's operation is smooth and provides adequate power for most tasks. Again, good tool for basic operations. Overall, this rotary tool set should meet most DIYer's basic home needs and is sold at a fair price compared to comparable products. ... show more

    • Nice Light Duty Rotary Tool
A 12 volt tool will never be as powerful as an AC powered tool, and this one isn't either. But it is lightweight and portable, and there's no cord to drag around and get tangled while you're using it. I just used it to cut into some stucco on a wall to free up an irrigation controller and it performed decently for such a light unit. It bogged down if I applied a lot of pressure, but taking it slow and letting it cut with light pressure applied it eventually made it through with a nice clean cut. If you're doing a lot of serious cutting or polishing, this probably isn't the best choice. But if you need a portable rotary tool you can use when you're not next to an outlet, this one works fairly well. ... show more
