We bought a twin of this water heater before. We used it as a booster and that is the plan here. We have a utility sink near the shop. It is supplied by a regular water heater. For washing equipment, it is fine but it is wasteful when someone runs the water long enough to get hot water to wash their hands. They end up wasting more water than they use for the washing. By using one of these on the hot side, a person can get enough hot water to finish in the time they would normally wait for the hot water. Also, by setting the thermostat as high as the heater allows, the user will blend in cold water, effectively slowing the flow through the tankless water heater. I realize that we do waste the heat from water in the lines but it is compromise. If we need to fill a bucket with hot water, we can start with a smaller flow until the water from the main water heater reaches the tap. With all these things in mind, we hit a snag. The breaker box is full. We may be able to change a few full-sized breakers for half sized ones but that has already been done, so we might need to get creative or find we can’t do it again. Another option would be a sub breaker box next to the main breaker box. Since this is not a critical project, it has been put on the back burner. There are a few things to be aware of. The first, is can your electrical supply accommodate the needs of this water heater? Be aware that as a standalone, the water supply is not as fast as one from a conventional water heater. The water supply must be slowed down to give this tankless heater time to bring up the water temperature. Even a slight burp in the water supply can kill the heater. You must NEVER run it without water in it. A plumber said a great number of tankless heaters are killed during installation. People power them up before the water reaches the heater. One day, in our garage, I did not know the water company had shut off the water in the street earlier in the day. The hot water ran fine, until there was a shuddering, followed by a hiss of air. The water resumed but was cold. In about a second, the trapped air exposed the heating elements. I lost two out of four elements and all the SCRs. It was a much bigger unit than this one but the outcome would be the same. I gave this 5 stars. Side by side, it looks one that I have in use and I have no reason to believe this will be any less reliable or useful.
