I must say I am impressed with the quality and functionality you get with this budget meter. Fiber network problems are almost impossible to diagnose without specialized equipment. You can get very inexpensive light sources which can be useful locating outright breaks in the fiber. But, intermittent problems, issues with splices, etc. are almost impossible to troubleshoot without a power meter. This meter includes a 650 nm (visible) 10-mw red visible laser light source which can be useful to find breaks in the line and to check simple continuity. But it also includes an auto-ranging power meter, which operates over eight different wavelengths (850, 980, 1300, 1310, 1490, 1550, 1625, 1650 nm.) which covers those most commonly used. You cannot see most of these colors with your naked eye. So, without a meter you can't tell if you have signal or not just by looking. This is very useful to determine if sufficient signal is reaching your various endpoints. It eliminates the guesswork. The device includes a 1.5 mm universal interface and supports FC/SC/ST optical fiber connectors. The battery is rated at 1500 ma/h, and will last many days of average use. It charges quickly with a USB-C power cube - not included. You do get a USB cable. It does include an instruction sheet. But like with many devices these days, it only covers the basics. However, it's easy to find videos, etc. detailing use under a variety of applications. Yes, you can buy fancier and more costly power meters. But this one is very nice and will do just about everything those do. It's easily deserving of five stars.

I own a low voltage business. This device came in handy the first day it arrived. I went out on a call to diagnose a network down issue. This device helped me find the issue almost immediately on arrival. I was able to discover a break in one of the fiber lines that provided the internet connection to the business. I had them back up and running within a half hour of being on site. Without this device I could have been there all day and the business could have been down all day. Many times network areas are in low light spots. With the backlight on this device it is easy to see. It is a well built meter. I anticipate using this meter for years to come. I love the idea that it is able to find issues almost immediately. It was right on the button. The screen is extremely bright making it very easy to read. The rechargeable battery means you never have to buy batteries and it is a simple as plugging it into a type C USB cable.

I bought this thinking I'd just test some cables. Now I'm basically a sci-fi wizard shooting red laser beams down fiber lines like I'm auditioning for Star Wars: Network Engineer Edition. The visual fault locator is no joke - my cat thinks I bought her the world's most advanced laser pointer. And when it's not entertaining pets, it's actually pretty great at finding breaks in fiber faster than my patience breaks when someone says, "The Wi-Fi's down." Pros: - Shoots red light that makes you feel way cooler than you are. - Comes with adapters for every connector known to humankind. - Doubles as a party trick if you work in IT. Cons: - Don't shine it in your eyes unless you want to see eternity. - Makes you realize just how messy your fiber management actually is.
