  • Bad can or just BAD????
I will say that it's possible getting this on Amazon instead of somewhere local, it could have been that I got a can that had been sitting on a shelf somewhere for years and has gone bad, but..... there is something VERY very wrong with this stain!!! This is why you should always test on a scrap piece of wood first! When I opened the can it looked like grey paint. I stirred for several minutes and nothing changed so I tried it on two separate pieces of scrap pine, one which was raw and the other which had been treated with wood conditioner. Immediate disaster. The grey solids would NOT wipe off at all and there appears to not be any stain color of the wood, just a disgusting grey mess all over it. This was wildly unexpected, both from what the picture on the can looks like (I don't see any grey in that, do you?) and I also looked at the sample of this stain at my local Menards and there was not a bit of grey on that either. So...... buy at your own risk??? I will say that Amazon had it's usual excellent customer service and I was refunded right away, so I'm at least not out the money for whatever disaster this was! ... show more

  • My first ever dollhouse!
I wanted to stain a vintage log cabin kit with this. I had read about a formula with vinegar, but it could expose the dolls to acid and damage them. I wanted something that would seal and protect the wood and be okay for the nice things that come in contact with the wood. It took a month to build the house. I used broken used sand belts to fashion my own roof. Next I am putting flashing around the chimney. The nice thing about the weathered look is it doesn't matter how many mistakes I made it looks even better. This stain also worked with a can of Dap wood putty I found that is over 20 yrs. old. I added acetone to the putty and it reconstituted the putty. The stain does not look glossy either. I would have not liked anything shiny. I made an india ink wash to antique the pine wood before I used the stain. ... show more

  • A Shade Warmer Than Classic Gray
I've been using MinWax "Classic Gray" until now, not always loving the darkness of the gray that comes out of that stain. Classic Gray is great if you want a pure "driftwood" or beachy look, but I wanted a little bit of warmth as well. Luckily I discovered Weathered Oak just in time for my next project! It is exactly what I was looking for! It is still gray, but with just enough warmth to make the wood still look "alive." We used this to stain the top of our hand-built reclaimed wood farm table, and a week after moving the table into our dining area, I am LOVING it more and more every day. This is the perfect stain if you are going for the reclaimed look, but still want it to have a hint of warm wood tones in it as well! ... show more

  • Easy for a beginner! Beautiful finish
I chose this stain for my first EVER round of DIYing! I've posted a photo of the final product, which I think turned our rather well. I sanded my pine wood with 120 then 220 and conditioned the wood before staining, and let that dry a full day. I then applied 3 coats of this stain with a brush, waiting 15 minutes before wiping off the excess and 2 hours between coats. I did not sand between coats. I topped it off with Minwax 23333 Satin Polycrylic Protective Finishes, 1/2 Pint , and I think the final result is beautiful! I was pretty apprehensive about this process, but ended up having no glitches; the product performed really well! I was able to find it at my local Walmart, but saw it at Home Depot too! 10/2/14 Recently Stained and sealed a set of pine Ikea Ivar chairs; added pictures! ... show more

  • It should be titled driftwood or barnwood in my opinion!
Brand new pine wood that I used! I applied two coats but never wiped it off after 5-15 min as it instructs . I just applied one coat, waited 2 hours, and applied the second coat. The color turned out a very nice driftwood color. First picture is only 1 coat applied Second picture is right after the second coat applied Hours later is the final picture of it with poly! ... show more

  • Absolutely love it!
I was looking for a subtle color for oak that did not have that typical yellow or reddish tint that so many typical oak pieces have. I wanted more of a gray/taupe color. This is stunning! I could not find in anywhere locally, so I bought it here and it arrived just fine in the package. Someday my husband and I hope to replace our 30+ year-old kitchen cabinets with some we will stain ourselves. I really, really hope that this color is still available then because I want an entire kitchen in this color. It is beautiful! ... show more
