Provides a natural finish that protects wood against moisture and sun damage. Fortified with PENETROL for excellent penetration. Recommended for use on any properly prepared exterior wood, including decks, fences, siding, railings, outdoor furniture and other wood surfaces. Apply to new, dry, pressure-treated wood, uncoated new or weathered wood, or wood previously stained or painted. Apply directly to weathered wood previously finished with FLOOD CWF-UV; other previous coatings must be completely removed.

I had both cedar and redwood fencing installed last year that was starting to gray and looked washed out. Most experts recommend waiting at least six months until the oils in the natural wood diminish, giving the stain more adhesion and uniformity. It was now or never, so I compared brands until my head was spinning. A clear or transparent stain can repel water but won't retard graying. For that I needed some tint, as in 'semi-transparent' since I wanted the wood to show. Most redwood stains are too unnaturally red for my tastes, so I went with Cedar which I could use on both fences. I found that even the most expensive stains are good for a few years only. Flood's product is reasonably priced, and they've been around since before the Civil War apparently. I was also intrigued by their oil-based formula that supposedly cleaned up with soap and water. Well, it's true. It has an oily feel that the dry wood really soaked up, yet it washed off the brush and roller easily with just soap and water. One gallon did two coats on about 50 ft. of 6' fencing (one-sided), using a brush. I'm sure a sprayer would take more. To me it looks very natural, unlike some stains that are more like paint. My cedar fence looks new again, and the redwood is a deep amber hue that I love. In six months I'll be buying more of this for the newest back portion. At that time I will post updated photos showing how it's held up, but as of now I'm more than happy with the quality and coverage. UPDATE: My fences look just as they did when I stained them a year ago! No more graying and the wood still looks new. At this rate it should be good for several years. I have been using this stain for 20 years. I stain my deck every other year and this stain holds up well and really protects the wood. The color looks great too! I will continue to buy this stain as long as it's available.

This product flows out nice and gives my redwood deck a new look! I sanded the deck and cleaned it then put three coats on and the 20 year old deck looks new!!!!

I've already reviewed this product,been using on cedar shutters,cedar rails cedar paneling on two houses since back in mid 80's,I don't know of any better product for looks,sealing,ease of application,it just keeps getting better/ improved.after first app. About 3yrs,reapplied, was still in great shape(slightly faded from south Tx heat and sun.this latest batch really brought back the color added nice wet look,when dried.confident will get 5 to 7 years this time.4th app in 27 yrs.don'r get any better than this for me Mitch D ... show more

I wasn't terribly upset at a delay in shipping , BUT the can I received was so severely bent & dented that it's nothing short of miraculous it didn't leak. Also it had no handle to boot ! I fear that once I do open it, I may not be able to get it closed properly. ------- As for the product itself, I had just finished using up a 5 gallon bucket of this my contractor had gotten for my new deck. So I purchased this to give another coat or 2 to several areas once weather permits. This stuff does look fantastic once you get enough coats on & I do love the easy soap and water clean up, but it takes a lot of coats to get good coverage. ... show more
