  • Fun beginner RC with standard parts, great value!
The Akeleo 1/18 scaler RC car is a great introductory-level truck at a great price. I’ve owned multiple RC cars, and this one is relatively standard, but it features a couple of perks that make it worth getting. For one, it has an aluminum skid plate and metal drivetrain components. While some may seem commonplace, I was surprised to see it on a budget model at this price. The product description on this one is all over the place with conflicting information. In one place it says 40 mph max, and in another it says 50, it also says the battery is a lipo, a lithium polymer. In my observation, it doesn’t reach either speed, but it’s quick enough. It’s hard to tell, but I think this is a brushed motor as well, but it at least has a beefy heatsink on it. The battery that comes with it has a Deans connector and balance lead. It comes with a charger, but I prefer to use my balance charger for these types of batteries. The battery is a standard 2S pack with two 18650 batteries. The battery bay in the car has enough space to accommodate larger batteries, if you so choose. The vehicle only comes with one battery, but picking up an additional one is relatively low-cost and easy to find. This is probably the reason it’s such a low price. The car can easily be upgraded, but I’d more likely use it as spare parts for my other cars once it dies or breaks. The control arms and suspension are plastic, so these are the most likely parts to break. I know many people smash these cars into something the first time they use and break them, so be careful. It does come with a couple of CV spares, but not any arms. Usually, when these fail, it’s the whole assembly. It comes with a nice manual that breaks everything down, so you can buy spares and have a good guide on how to do it. Overall, it's not a bad car for the price. It's great for a little fun in the backyard. If you get this for your kids, make sure to have a big open space away from anything to crash into. They’ll love it, and you will, too! ... show more

  • Absolute blast and spare parts available
The media could not be loaded. This R/C is an absolute bargain despite some listing inaccuracies as to what is included. No, there is not a second body, extra clips, or CVDs, and the battery is LiIon, not LiPo. But don’t let that sway you; it is still well worth it. I wasn’t expecting hobby grade at any level or great performance at this price point, but this thing delivered both. Upon unboxing, I realized that this R/C is right in line with the likes of WL toys. The weight is substantial, and overall build quality is very good. It has a chassis plate, front hub carriers, and some of the steering linkage made of aluminum. For a little 2s brushed car, this thing rips. It is pretty quick on the supplied Li-ion but even quicker running a LiPo. The range and responsiveness are good; steering and throttle are proportional, durable parts, serviceable diffs, and switchable LEDs from the tx and 4-wheel drive. My first concern was with how heavy it is; I was also admittedly impressed. Typically, the heavier they are, the harder they crash. So to be able to find replacement parts, mainly arms, was a bonus because they are usually the first to go. This price point comes with compromises: The first being, it is not full-blown hobby grade. The hardware is Phillips head drive instead of hex. This can make servicing and replacement quite difficult, and some things simply are not serviceable or replaceable. Things we have had come up or noticed: the transfer case has begun leaking grease, the steering servo isn’t particularly strong when the tires have some resistance stationary, the tires aren’t glued, while it is proportional, the resolution could be better, and lastly, being more obscure, in some regions, parts may not be readily available. But what you get for your money is quite impressive. We have many R/C vehicles in our household, including a couple of 8s Xmaxx; and we still find this thing super fun to drive. It has made my kids, and I get a renewed appreciation for smaller scale. This would be a fantastic starter setup for young children wanting to get into hobby- grade R/C, but seasoned veterans will surely appreciate it and have a lot of fun as well. Just ask my five and seven year old kids that had to wrestle it away from Dad. ... show more

  • Fun RC Car, lots of control, fast speed
This is a really fun RC car for you and for the kids in your life. I am looking forward to bringing it down to San Diego to use with my nieces and nephew over the summer. For today, though, I drove this around my house and it did great. I was initially nervous about how it would perform and whether I should be driving it indoors, so I sent it down my long hallway slowly and with some trepidation. But as I did so, I realized I had far more control than I had anticipated and I ended up driving it up and down the hallway and then sending it around my living room and dining room - sometimes fast, sometimes slow. With kids/ teens, you will probably want to be outside since this car does have a good amount of power/ speed and they will want to push it to its limit. But, an older teen or adult could absolutely drive this around the interior of the house without causing any damage. At one point, I did accidentally send it forward instead of in reverse, and it tried to climb up my bathroom doorway - it I had given it more power, I'm pretty sure it probably would have flipped. There was no damage at all to the door way. I do wish that it had a "Quick Start Guide" - The instruction manual has a lot going on (small print, a lot of details)- so as a beginner to RC cars, it took me some time to figure out how to get started. The car seems to have a lot of functions, which is great - and I am sure I will gradually explore those. But over the weekend, I just wanted to try it out and make sure it was working/ a good quality product. Overall, I would recommend this RC car to others. ... show more
