I bought these to germinate and grow Hoya seeds. They work perfectly and the clamp in grow lights are great. I was wondering how I was going to put these seeds under grow lights because I have so many started all my grow lights were being used. I do wish the lids "snapped on" to the bottom instead of just sitting on top loosely. I am very happy with them and plan on buying a couple more. ... show more

This is a very nice kit for germinating seeds. It's more durable than the ones you see in most garden centers, so it should last a while; as long as you don't step on it or drop anything heavy on it. The dimmable lights are perfect for germinating just about any type of seed and the timer function is nice too. You can also choose to have one or both sets of lights switched on. However, the dimmer and timer functions only apply to the lights that are switched on... you can't program different settings for the 2 domes. ... show more

    • Watch out for the dripping on the sides!
This is an overall good seed starter kit. It comes with everything you need except the soil, seeds, water, and electricity. I've used similar kits before, and they are really making gardening so much easier! But as with the other kits I've used, this one, too, has a big design flaw. Because of how the top sits on the tray, the kit starts dripping water on the sides after a while (this is due to the greenhouse effect where water evaporates, and then droplets accumulate on the top's sides and run down). Make sure you don't use this kit on surfaces that will get damaged from sitting water (I learned that the hard way so you don't have to). ... show more

When the Vine Program offered me these seed starter trays, it was as though they were reading my mind. Some aspects of the garden worked perfectly this year, but I realized that I should have “jump started” the tomatoes, since the first few will only be ripe by the middle of September. And it seems like I am in constant need of cilantro for cooking fish and find myself running to the grocery store too often for it. I found the ZMHOO seed starter trays a very well-designed and organized solution to my needs. There are 96 cells, each five and a half inches deep, which provides sufficient room for growth for the roots. No dirt is provided, but I have an ample supply of rich earth due to year’s of composting. The trays come with grow lights that are USB rechargeable, with five settings for brightness and three settings for time. Cost is a big consideration also. As in, how much do plants cost, even at the discounted big box stores vis-à-vis the seeds. Probably at least 20 to one. I noted that a pot of sunflowers was selling for $20… yet we have a backyard with literally hundreds of sunflowers, all grown readily from seed. Ah, and a steady supply of cilantro. May it be as prolific as the pictured sunflowers in the garden. At $36, this seed starter kit could produce hundreds of dollars' worth of plants… with a little care, attention and experimentation.     • Great for home seed starter
As an at-home gardener and avid hobbyist, I love these propogator boxes. They are so easy to use and get promising results. The only other thing you'd need to complete this simple set is some heat pads. These boxes come with LED grow lights that are more effective than simple incandescent lights or overhead home lighting. LEDs, however, are not great at creating ambient heat, which is where heat mats come in handy. The cells are small, so once your seeds germinate and get their cotyledons (seed leaves), it won't be long before you need to uppot the seedlings. This means only seeds of plants that tolerate uppotting should be used in these cells. You can opt out of using the cells and instead just put soil blocks in the tray, making the limiter the height of the lid, which may give you more time from germination to uppotting/planting out. The construction is durable enough for multiple uses, but be sure to sanitize with a 1:10 bleach:water solution between uses to prevent spread of any pathogens that could effect health of plants. This kit contains all the tools you need to beginning growing your plants from seed. The only thing you need to start is growing medium, seeds and water. The instructions are easy to follow. The setup per humidity done is easy. The growing light set is easy to operate. All four growing lights are attached to the one power control. You can select to use only two of the four growing lights per dome. Since there are two large growing domes, I opted to use only one dome and therefore selected two of the four lights. The dome and tray are plastic but they don’t feel too flimsy. The top of the domes contains molded slots for the growing lights to fit secure. The seed trays are made of a thinner plastic. Each growing light is approximately 8.5 inches long with a 0.5 inches diameter. The overall dimensions for an assembled dome are approximately 14 inches long, 11 inches wide and 6.5 inches in height.
