Description

Zippo’s Matte lighters are one of the most popular lighter finishes as the matte finish gives the lighter a smooth texture, it doesn’t show fingerprints, it doesn't scratch easily, and there are a variety of colors to choose from. The black matte lighter was first introduced into Zippo’s stock line in 1984 and soon after four more colors were introduced; blue, burgundy, green, and grey. In 1985, the Zippo logo was imprinted on the lighter and a border was added. Matte colors and designs continue to improve with time. Each lighter has a bottom stamp signifying the year it was made, is refillable, and is backed by Zippo's famous lifetime guarantee. All windproof lighters are American made in our Bradford, PA factory and come packaged in a gift box.

  • Wind proof
Love my zippo. Use to light my grill and works perfect, even in the wind.

  • Great Zippo Quality, Cool Color
Like others have mentioned, the color of the actual lighter is much closer to Olive Drab (Army Green) than the darker hue pictured. Though, if you go on the Zippo website the color name "Green Matte" looks like the photo here. Someone definitely needs to re-shoot these to get a more accurate picture up. That being said, I was looking for Olive Drab, so this was a bonus for myself. As for the lighter itself, unlike the cheap knock-offs, it oozes quality and the finish is far from tacky. It seems just as classy as my all brass Zippo, and from the looks of it (and the two times I've already dropped it on the floor) the finish is going to last for a long time. The usually Zippo click and feel is all there and the matte texture feels great in the hand. It can be a little slick, but nothing too bad. ... show more

  • Nostalgic greatness
It’s a Zippo what else is there to say. It’s the same great lighter as yesteryear. I wouldn’t use any other.

  • Brilliantly simple design since 1932 - it just works
I'm a nonsmoker and this is my first zippo purchase (that almost sounds like an AA confession). I grew up around smokers who had Zippo lighters and the smell of the fluid is nostalgic to me. I was surprised at how simple and low tech the insert was (I suppose it was the pinnacle of technology when they were originally rolled out). When I saw that the fuel chamber was basically soaked cotton I said "WOW - REALLY?!" HOWEVER - this is a great example of a simple design that just works. Why change it? It's darn cool. I need to say a couple of things to address complaints and/or questions that others have posted: *Of course these ship empty and without lighter fluid - it's against the law to ship this type of lighter prefilled - mainly because the fuel chamber is not airtight and that presents somewhat of a fire hazard to those hard working shipping folks that deliver our packages. *I found from personal experience that it's a good idea to let the lighter sit for a few minutes after refilling to allow any excess fluid to evaporate (sorry, mom . . the wig looks great!) *yes, the fluid evaporates over time if not used. . . see above about non-airtight chamber This is a great little device to add to my camping gear for firestarting, and honestly, there's something about the "chick-clunk" sound that is just so COOL! ... show more

  • Works perfectly, Low reviews don't may not understand zippos.
Those giving this product bad reviews probably don't understand the nature of a zippo lighter. I've seen many claim they received a defective lighter because it won't light. Zippos ship without fuel, and you must buy fuel separately or already own fuel. They recommend you buy official zippo fluid, but I've found that coleman fuel works just the same. Another thing people seem to complain about is the fact that it leaks and loses fuel. Zippos do this naturally do to how they function. The fuel evaporates over time. The longest I've seen a zippo go is about two weeks before fully evaporating even without use. If they mean actual lighter fluid leaking, this is caused by overfilling the lighter with fluid. I've done it a few times so I know that's the cause of it. As for my actual review, there isn't a whole lot to say. The actual color of the lighter is a bit darker than the picture shows. I have no problem with it because I like that it somehow makes me think of Master Chief's armor (I'd say that's about the same color). The matte paint doesn't pick up finger prints (which is why I choose that type). The insert fits perfectly and it functions properly. ... show more
