    • You have to be smarter than the lighter...
After considerable thought and research I decided to go with Zippo as my primary lighter and a big part of that was the arc insert. The whole insert system itself was a master stroke in my opinion. I got the double butane torch and the arc at the same time. Despite reading and following the instructions I couldn't get the first arc to ignite. I returned it. I received the replacement shortly thereafter and had the same issue. Then as I was about to give up and return the whole thing I happened to notice a little paper insert in the box that near the bottom mentions a double tap ignition system. Oi! It works like a champ. Perfect fit, excellent construction, clean, safe, and for those that can read easy to use. No issue with the double butane torch whatsoever. For the price they are both simply excellent. Since this experience I have thought of applications for some of the other inserts available and at these prices why not? I read the instruction leaflet and it says press the ignition button and hold it. Be nice if they more prominently displayed the double tap instruction somewhere as it is an excellent safety feature. They should also somehow give users the option of a single press. ... show more

I don't have to worry about fuel drying up, after a full charge, this great device performed "Like a Zippo." I don't smoke any more, but have inserted this device into my old Zippo I bought with my first "Flying 20" (Pay given to basic trainees in 1959. I purchased my Zippo, a can of fuel, a Playboy Magazine, a shoe brush, a can of black shoe (actually Boot) polish, a new Gilette Micrometer Razor, a can of Shaving Cream, bottle of after shave, a carton of Winstons ($3.00 for 10 packs) and a deodorant stick, and still had $5.00. My base pay befores taxes was $79.00 a month. This lighter was in my presence during the building of the Berlin Wall, also on guard mount at Spandau Prison guarding Hess, Speer and Von Schirch, and when I walked along the DMZ in North West Korea at an Army Security outpost and was my constant companion for over 30+ years. ... show more

Fits Zippo case ok; big battery so I feel it will go longer than others (I'm not a smoker - this is for backpacking along with firesteel ) but it always fires on the 2nd button press; wonder if the first press is part of loading its power supply and the 2nd press is the high current and high voltage energizing. Haven't tried soaking it yet - just hesitant to get it wet I suppose. ... show more

I'm not sure who created this but they're a genius! You have to double press the button and it holds a "flame" for 12 seconds before needing to be activated again. Awesome product from Zippo and I will be buying more! For me it's more practical then a flame that requires liquid fuel or butane.

Don’t have to worry about running out of fuel because the lighter has been in your pocket for so long. I got tired of my zippo always drying out. I didn’t use it enough. The fuel just dried out. You can charge it, comes with a cord. Easy to use. If you need to start a fire get this. If you want to smoke out of a pipe don’t get this. This is my safety lighter. I Use it for my EDC light. The double tap is a great safety feature. I didn’t read the instructions first. It’s way cool. I have the double butane torch as well. I want another one. I’m a big fan of the Ark electric lighter. Some are super loud. This one isn’t that loud at all. That never bother me before. I know some animals think it’s too loud I’ve noticed. This one is in the sweet spot. Get it. ... show more

I got this when it first came out (yes, I waited awhile since purchase before review) and was excited that I got to carry my normal Zippo case and have an arc lighter. Shortly after receiving and using this, I had issue with the insert. I called and spoke with a wonderful lady who after a brief discussion had me send the insert back and then shipped me a new replacement one. I cannot say how pleasant it is to work with Zippo when you have an issue that they stand behind all of their products! Zippo Customer Service = A+ After getting the replacement insert, and using it for awhile here are my thoughts/review on this product. The Good - It does what its supposed to, it lights your cigarette in any windy conditions (I did not try to light anything other than cigarettes so cannot speak to other materials) The Bad - I used this insert in multiple cases and they all fit too tightly, it was not easy to get the insert out to charge (read below for more on this, you will have to charge this frequently) like the normal insert. Zippo please make a case version that has a hole that allows charging without taking the insert out. Also I had to put the cigarette much closer to the insert vs my friends arc lighters that I used and made me want to get this insert. The Ugly - This does not hold the charge capacity that was advertised, even new. If your going to use this insert regularly you will need to charge every day and it may not make it through a full day. This is why I went back to using the regular fuel insert, I know you can fill it up and it last 1-2 weeks easy. ... show more

Tired of the wind blowing out your light? I am! Seriously, I live in a generally windy area and this thing is great. Don't need lighter fluid, do need to charge it, I'll take the trade off. I can't comment on fuel capacity though, I haven't been in a spot where I ran out of charge. I charge it every few days and don't let it run out. I like the double click to get it going, I keep it on me but I hope if someone gets their hands on it they'll only click it once so it's a neat safety measure to me. That arc is not! Haven't touched it, but stuff combusts instantly from it. It also looks really cool, enough said there. Honestly I don't have one bad thing to say about it. Wish I'd have bought it sooner.
