We got this to support a new-to-us adjustable air bladder based mattress (from a well known national reseller) on a new bed frame. We visited the local mattress stores to see if we could get a box spring or a base for this mattress and all the stores quoted around $800+, which was frustrating. We needed a new base since we were upgrading from a queen mattress to this air mattress had some special requirements about how it supported the underside of the mattress. After talking to a sales person at the store that sells these air mattresses, we learned that pretty much any base would work and got guidance that the slat spacing needed to be about 2" or that we could use something between the slats, like some heavy cardboard, to keep the mattress from squeezing between the slats. With that, we took the risk of getting this assemble-at-home base, and now that we've had it a few months, I can confirm that it works great! It assembled easily, I was able to do it by myself, but I would recommend most people have 2 people to manage it, especially if you get the king or Cal king size. Assembly took about 35 mins. A great low cost alternative to the expensive bases sold by the chain mattress stores. ... show more

I've bought two of these now, and each was incredibly easy to put together by myself (not particularly handy middle-aged woman), with clear directions and no assembly issues at all. Very light-weight too, so getting the finished product where you need it also can be done solo. This platform is so much better made and sturdier than typical box springs I can't imagine why box springs were ever invented. This has the strength of steel coupled with sturdy wooden slats to provide just A bit of relief. Assembly is pretty easy and straightforward.
