I haven't fished with it yet, but I hooked up a plug and did some casting in my backyard. It seems to cast smoothly, and it reels back in smoothly. It has only one pickup pin. I don't think that will be a problem. It doesn't have any ball bearings at all. The gear ratio is pretty low, and each spin of the handle pulls in about 16 inches of line.
