The media could not be loaded. I used some today reinforcing concrete for a water control structure below my pond. I was expecting this to a challenge to mix in, but with a power concrete mixer it easily blended in. See the video as I tossed it in bit by bit as the mixer spun. I did not let the mixer run much after I finished adding the fiberglass. Within 30 seconds I was dumping it into a bucket, and could see the fiber was evenly mixed. I was pouring it into a form for a small wall, using a bucket, I saw a lot of fiberglass, evenly through the whole mix. I'd have to be pretty motivated to try adding this when mixing concrete by hand. But come to think of it, I'd have to be pretty motivated to mix concrete by hand to start with. With a mixer, this adds minimal time. bonus tip: if you need to make concrete set faster or stay warmer (due to freezing weather), calcium chloride is what they add. Also, some of the more expensive ice melt is calcium chloride. I've used ice melt that is labled as calcium chloride, and it seems to work well.

This is the first time I have used a fiberglass fortifer for concrete. I usually use a hardener product that is liquid, but you have to use the mixture quickly as it cures quickly. This fiberglass product works well to give you the strength you need for your concrete mixture and plenty of time to work with it. I suggest this product as it is easy to use!

These 3/4” fibers are what are referred to as “macrofibers” and are useful for the long-term life of the concrete. Many masons use these instead of rebar for their ability maintain “toughness” (the actual term of art) stopping tiny cracks into becoming larger cracks. Using (non-rusting) fiberglass in your concrete mix will provide reinforcement all over the inside of the structure, not just where rebar may be. Fiberglass has a very high failure temperature (as opposed to plastic fibers) and are easier to embed during the float stage. The usual recommended amount is about 4 Pounds of these macrofibers per cubic yard of concrete (that’s a lot!) so break out your handyman calculator app to figure how much applies to your current job. While these aren’t sold in the big box stores anymore (I don’t know why!) most “concrete” companies would probably have them on hand, however, for convenience, I ordered them here, had them delivered right to my door and I know I’ll have them no matter what little job I may need to tackle around the house for the rest of my life!

I decided to pull up the concrete bricks I used for my garden edging. I wanted to make a flowing solid concrete edge instead. I was just worried that my concrete work might start cracking prematurely. In comes these strands. I mixed it with the cement before pouring and it looks pretty good. I’m hoping that these fibers will add strength to it. Time will tell.

Excellent deal on some shredded fiberglass to add to any aggregate for better strength. I dont know if I am overly sensitive to such things, but I would always where a filter around any kind of fiberglass. Sprinkle this into your aggregate mix evenly and behold the imparted strength to your finished product. We;re using this with an outdoor kitchen build with concrete countertops...looks so good!
