This is my first time ordering Purple Heart wood. 1) Bubble mailer wasn’t sufficient for corners of wood, caused an indent on the corner of one piece and splintering on another corner. I’d recommend this seller use cardboard boxes, shrink wrap the pieces together for better protection, and use a paper filler for the rest of the box to prevent jostling. 2) S4S is great overall. I didn’t know Purple Heart was so splintery (is that even a word?). 3) Now I know what Purple Heart smells like...not the most pleasant, but not the sellers fault, it’s the nature of the wood. 4) Wood packed tight in bubble mailer to prevent jostling, which is great. Overall, seller did a good job, just needs better packaging to prevent the issues I’ve mentioned and provided pictures in my review. ... show more

So yeah I got what I purchased, 3/4 x 4 x 12 in slab of purpleheart wood. Its not as vibrant as the picture would lead you to believe but that is dependent on how recently it was cut, what it was sealed with and how much UV exposure it had. This is a natural process that happens to the wood. So any novices do not expect to receive purple wood and it to stay purple. The pieces I recived both have nice grain patterns but one of the pieces is starting to crack on the end. Overall it was worth it to make a small box but the price per board foot is a little much. ... show more

I havent carved on them yet but they arrived as expected, look like a good high quality boards. They are very clean cut and a good color. Very pleased with them so far. Have never carved purple heart before but looking forward to it with these clean boards. Very acceptable for the price.

First of all when I sand it down, I thought it's not real purpleheart lumbers as described by seller, then it goes back to its real color again.

I ordered 3/4 purpleheart, but it measured to 1 inch. Both boards have amazing color and grain. If you are worried about it fading because of sanding, that is just a part of working with wood. It will darken with age and oil or finish. I have used purple heart before, and I will order from this company again. ... show more

Great lumber. Got 2 good solid pieces, almost like whoever boxed it knew what they were doing in regards to choosing lumber. To all the folks complaining about the color or it being fake purple heart have to understand its a tropical wood. It may be a dull brown tone but as it absorbs sunlight the color will become more vibrant, and conversely over time it'll dull back down. Purple heart is like working with a very sensitive brick. Still cant believe you can buy lumber on amazon...what an age. ... show more

    • great solid pieces of purpleheart
The two pieces I received came in excellent condition. I wanted to use these for a couple purposes, as well as to just keep on hand for future projects. I plan on milling part of one for splines on a mitered joint for color contrast and strength. I plan on also making another one into pen blank sizes, and with the cost of the boards compared to prepared pen blanks to buy, these are a really good deal. I'm sure I'll find even more projects to integrate the purpleheart into as well. ... show more
