I've heard of batteries sold separately, but this is a first where power is sold separately, sadly these do not come with any power source so you'll have to either wire these into an existing system that can handle the extra load, or find another 12v power supply, which if my calculation is correct, 12v x 3w =0.25amps so .25amp x8 lights =2 amp minimum. Thanks to their amazing support i was able to reset the lights to pair them again as the first time i did not wait long enough for them to appear in the app. Once you get them to pair, give them a minute or two to connect to the app, then you can use the settings in the app, a pretty cool one is the camera color, you point the camera at something and it changes the lights to whatever you are pointing at. The controller is waterproof so that is major plus, I wired an old Direct TV ac power supply to a DC buck converter and set it to 12v, the lights came on perfectly and are quite bright with no flicker, they actually started coming on around 5v but i only had one string of 4 lights connected..my plan is to run these off of a12v battery and charged via solar panel. ... show more

The lights are quality however the app and control is super basic and feels outdated. I’ve seen this app template used in several different apps and it’s not impressive. I don’t care for the wiring harness and extension cables that came with it. It’s very limiting on how you can route the lights without having to customize it yourself. Upon anticipation of these lights, I purchased a low voltage transformer and 100ft of 14/2 wiring. When I opened these lights up the labels and manuals all said 12V DC yet my low voltage transformer says 12V AC. I tried it anyways and guess what? The lights work and so does the app functionality (I've seen other brands that if you hook up to 12V AC the smart home / app functionality doesn't work, so bonus points for this brand!). Ok so the “Works with Alexa” part may be true but the product tells you in the app you must purchase a “Smart Hub” to connect this to Alexa. So that seems misleading. The app does control the lights via WiFi. All 7 lights are mirror settings and grouped. I cannot control the lights individually. I put mine in some bushes and aimed them up. The color changing lights are accurate, however all 8 are the same color, cannot set each one differently. Being that you would nee multiple sets, and that there are many other lights on the market which are more user friendly and much less money, I wouldn't recommend these particular lights. The price is very high for just 8 lights (in my opinion). I will stick to what works best and easiest for me, maybe these would be better for a professional. ... show more

Extremely well made Recommend 24v with these as I have too many issues with brightness with 12v. Unless you plan to put them extremely close and only do six or so.
