I bought 2 of this very inexpensive umbrella for my kids. One of them had no problem, the other one needs to be pushed harder to be able to open it fully so maybe not the best umbrella for a 6 year old (I would say 9+ years is ok). We contemplated returning it but my 6 year old really wanted me to draw some minions in it and this was perfect for that. All the kids need to leave their umbrella at the entrance of the classroom and then they forget to pick them up, this one is so small it can stay inside their backpack pocket so they never leave it behind. It’s also very simple looking so the bullies leave them alone, so far they are only destroying the cute looking kids umbrellas.

This is a great backup umbrella. I keep this in my vehicle for use when I least expect to need it. It is very compact, has a great storage case and works well. I give 4 instead of 5 stars because it is a little difficult to extend to the full length to have it "click" into place for use. Otherwise, really impressed with this umbrella. It is true to color, in my case.

As others have said this umbrella is extremely hard to lock open. You need a lot of strength. The only way I could get it to lock was to open it, put on floor, and with both hands push it into the floor until it locked. Of course this doesn't work in a real situation. I did leave it fully open and locked for a few days and locked and unlocked a few times. This seemed to help a little but still can't get it to lock most times.
