An inexpensive solution to a frustrating problem. I knit and I tpull my yarn from the inside. As other knitters know, there are frequently snarls tucked away in there and the occasional massive “ yarn barf”. I finally decided to try winding my yarn into cakes, figuring that would take less time than untangling. Not sure if I’d like this I went for a lower cost winder. Kicking myself now for not doing this years ago. This thing is great. Yes, this one feels a little flimsy but it gets the job done. It does loosen up a bit as you wind bigger cakes, but that’s a minor inconvenience. It’s easy to use -actually sort of fun - and does a really good job. I now have neat, tidy cakes of yarn that are easy to store. I still pull from the inside but the days of surprise tangles are over. Well worth the relatively low price.

I love that it comes in a two pack! They have to be assembled upon arrival, but are quick and mostly intuitive to put together. They function well and easily and look cute with the pink and white finish. I have four kids that sometimes make a mess of my yarn, so I got these to help me properly remedy their mess. They are made of plastic but are durable for the intended use. Just store in a yarn box or somewhere it couldn't be stepped on or smashed under something heavy. This has saved me a lot of trips back to the store for more yarn, so I think it's a pretty good item to have. It would also be useful for spinning my own yarns, which perhaps I will get into one day!

Pull skeins are great...unless they're not. I've had to deal with my fair share of not being able to find the end, yarn barf in the middle of a project, etc. And then there's the situation where the pull skein worked properly but I didn't use the whole thing and was left with a floppy remnant. And then there are specialty yarns that come in hanks, which have to be wound into balls to make them usable. These are situations where a winder definitely comes in handy. This winder works well. It clamped firmly to my desk top and worked smoothly and quickly. Within a couple of minutes I had an easy-to-work-with ball of yarn. This won't do large balls - a 4 oz. skein of my favorite worsted-weight yarn from the craft store will probably make two or more balls. But that's not necessarily a bad thing. The balls this winder makes will fit better into my project go-bag and my yarn bowl. The instruction sheet included with the winder was pretty good. I have only three complaints for the manufacturer. 1 - I had to thread the yarn through the feeder like it was the eye of a needle. 2 - the winding handle is quite short. A longer handle would be a nice feature. 3 - the box it came in was flimsy, so it was crushed in shipping and can't be reused for storage. Luckily, the winder itself was not damaged.

I got this to help with winding yarn balls to make it easier using them. The clamp works pretty good and didn't mark up my table. It does seem to work better with the big cone of yarn than the smaller yarn balls without a cardboard core. It is faster than winding by hand.
