Purchased the 12x14x16 box. This Box was a surprisingly nicely designed and well fitted. Some of the smaller boxes don't have the inner supports , this one does. The screws are about 1-3/4" hex head screws, the wood 10 layer plywood. The pieces fit together well and the predrilled screw holes were beveled. There was one extra included screw. The outside panels were sanded and seemed to have a light urethane type finish. Some complain about the assembly. I used a power drill with hex nut fitting and predrilled small holes for the screws. I have had a garage gym for years ( OLD GUY ) and normally look elsewhere for exercise equipment . Buy this box with confidence . I have ALL the necessary woodworking tools to make a jig saw type box. This is as well made as you need and better than I expected . After some of the reviews started to concern me , I figured at worst case I could use the box for a pattern to build one myself . This is made of 11 ply 3/4 plywood. Went together very easy with a tighter fit than I had expected . All the pre drilled holes lined up correctly . They are using cabinet style fasteners too , not just wood screws . My teenage son asked for this as a Christmas gift. I am happy with the quality. It is quite sturdy. I like that there is also a couple wooden internal cross support boards inside to keep it from collapsing. The only improvement I would suggest the manufacturer make is a small pilot hole be drilled through both pieces of wood, rather than only a hole through the first layer. Anyone who knows anything about wood working should know that a pilot hole smaller than the screw diameter helps assure against wood splitting (vs forcing the screw into the wood with brute force), especially with this being plywood and some of the screws needing to go into the 1” ends of the sheets. We own a drill so drilled our own. This is the only reason I knocked it down a star. ... show more

    • Beware, assembly is a headache.

The box is good, a little narrow but works for step ups just fine. My issue was the assembly instructions were less than minimal. There are 2 pieces for the inside of the box and they only show you where to put one of them. I just made the other one fit. They also give you Allen screws to assemble it, but there are no pre-drilled holes to screw them into as you assemble the pieces, so using an Allen wrench and doing it by hand is pretty much impossible. I ended up finding similarly sized Philips head screws and drilled them in their spots instead. That seems to have worked well for me so far, but it was very annoying. For the price and the multiple heights you get, it's worth the headache, as long as you're at least a little handy and have the right tools/parts to make assembly a little easier on you. ... show more

This is an awesome box. Very well constructed. But, my only issues would be no pre drilled holes for the screws. I used a very small drill bit to drill small pilot holes so the wood would not split. Secondly the braces inside the box. I received two that are 30" in le fht and one that's 20" in lenght. Not sure how a 30" piece is suppose to fit the 24" space. Guess I need to trim it myself. As I do not want to wait for a proper part.. Would be a 5 star if the center brace had the proper parts... ... show more

I have an entire home gym and this box is one of the cheapest - yet most effective pieces of equipment I own. You can use this to work on stability, muscle building, or whatever floats your boat. Granted, it’s not the easiest to assemble with something like 30+ screws to hold it all together - I used my cordless drill with a hex bit, which made assembly 10,000 times easier. The manufacturer adds a tiny Allen wrench with the screws, which would take hours to assemble (literally)… aside from that, the box is worth its weight in gold. ... show more

This is a great box, no doubt. Less than the wood would cost to build it yourself, but machine cut, smooth edges, nicely finished. As nice as any box I've seen in any CrossFit box. It's very sturdy, and I Iove the handle cutouts. That being said, the assembly was not fun. I won't say it wasn't easy, it was easy, it just wasn't fun. The ends of each side go on top of the adjoining side. The top piece has a nice hole with a counter-sink in it, there is no hole in the lower piece. Not a problem, really, since the screws are more than sharp enough to pierce the wood. The problem is that they are Allen head screws. The screws come with a tiny Allen tool, pictured here. I included a penny in the picture for scale. At first, I thought, no problem! I have Allen wrench bits of every size in my collection to put in my cordless screwdriver. But I was wrong. I have all sizes EXCEPT this one. I don't know if this is a custom size or if I've magically misplaced this size bit from the 3 different sets I own, but there was no bit found at my house. So, I used the Allen wrench it came with. It took a lot of force on the wrench to get the screws started. After that, some went in smoothly, but many did not. I had to take a break and wait to finish until the next day to prevent getting blisters on the pads of my thumb and fingers. You can also see in the image that by the time I was done, the Allen wrench itself was stripped a bit. All-in-all, it wasn't a HORRIBLE experience, but I would gladly have paid a price of, say, $5 more to get a better Allen tool. Perhaps like the ratcheting ones Ikea includes? Or just make the screws Phillips head. I will include this qualification: It could be that the company is smarter than me, and they know that using a cordless drill or screwdriver would have caused the wood to split or some other thing to make the box not as nice. A sentence or two in the instructions stating that would have made me feel better about it. ... show more
