    • The ultimate 120v 20a cable!
Size: 50 ft
Most cheaper/lighter cords will work just fine for a lot of basic use. If you are drawing more than 12 amps or 1400 watts regularly or continuously for any amount of time, this cable will be much safer. A cable designed to handle the current like this one is basically required to reduce the risk of fatal failure or fire. I’ve used several extension cords, even ones rated for 20 amps. This is the first one I’ve tested that was better than 12 gauge. Especially at more than 20 feet, 10 gauge is the better option. Even if 12 gauge (smaller than 10) can technically do the job, you will experience more voltage drop at longer distances. Under continuous load the smaller gauge cords heat up, sometimes to fatal levels. I’ve tested this cable under 12-16 amps continuously for many hours and the cable was still cool (approximately room temperature) to the touch. The voltage at the wall averaged 120.73 and at the end of the cable that was under this load averaged 118.21 during this. This is very good for 50 feet with a heavy load. Don’t forget that a 20a (NEMA 5-20) outlet is needed, or a NEMA 5-15 to 5-20 adapter. Note that you shouldn’t use more than 15a or 12a continuous if using an adapter. Adapters are not advised and may be an additional risk. Overall this is the best you can get for 120v and is well worth the money. It’s amazing how flexible the cord is even with the high gauge wire, while maintaining it’s temperature. It’s no surprise it is OSHA approved. It is basically made for construction sites, so it is what you must buy for heavy duty power in hard to reach places. ... show more

Purchased this back in May 2015 and have used it numerous times for my portable generator. Digging into the specs at the Coleman Cable website, this cable is rated from -50 to 60 deg C (-58 to 140 F) which will cover pretty much any harsh environment. Although 10 awg wire can technically handle much more than 20A of current, the reason it's rated to 20A is because of the NEMA 5-20P/R contacts (the plug/receptacle ends). The actual conductors in this cord are spec'd to be "104/30 BC" which means 104 strands of 30 awg Bare Copper. The key here is "Bare Copper". Most cheap extension cords use Aluminum or even tin which keeps the cost down, but in terms of conductivity, is far inferior to copper. What happens is you end up with more resistance in the wire using aluminum or tin. If you aren't electrically familiar with resistance, what that means is that your voltage at the receptacle end is much less due to the resistance and that reduces the amount of power available to whatever is connected to your extension cord. Copper's conductivity is only second to that of Silver which is why your house wiring and the power utilities always use copper. However, the down side to copper is that it's much heavier so this is why this extension cord is heavy. Overall, this is a extremely well made extension cord that the manufacturer did not cut corners on and is made for heavy duty applications and should last many years of heavy use. Although the price is a bit high, what you really are paying for is the quality, materials, and workmanship. In the end, investing in purchasing a high quality product is much more cost effective than buying a lower quality product with poorer performance and having to replace it again and again. ... show more

Great heavy duty cord I wanted a heavier cord for a portable A/C so will have to use a 12 awg cord. . . (Am sure there is a reason, like to not overload the 15 amp (or kess?) breaker on most household outlet/receptacles ) Note that the 20 amp cord plug will not plug into a 15 amo socket/plug in but that a 15 amp will plug into the cord ... show more

We bought this and a 100-foot version to power an RV while we're living full time in it temporarily and needed about 120-foot of cord to connect to the nearest power-pole breaker box. 10 gauge wire conductors carry the 30-amp load quite well, and the construction of these cords is very high quality and seemingly very durable. I'd recommend them for anyone wanting to power an RV or construction-type power tools from a utility or portable generator. They beat "big box store" flimsy "outdoor cords" which usually are 12 ga. at most. Spend the money and get good performance without "pushing the amperage" limits of cheaper cords. ... show more

I needed two 20A (20 ampere) power cords serving the two 20A entrance outlets inside my RV. Lots of heavy duty outdoor extension cords look beefy enough and have 12awg conductors, but a closer look indicates they are only appropriate for 15A (amps). 12 gauge wire can carry 20A, but not extension cords. For 20A you have to go to 10 gauge conductors and cords with 20A plugs (male and female). This is a 20A cord. I only needed about nine feet so I cut two nine foot lengths and dressed one end with male 20A plugs and terminated each into a dual outlet 20A receptacle. One receptacle dedicated to my LiFeP04 battery charger and the other one to serve the 15A power distribution breaker for my RV, with a line side parallel to the automation controlled 20A emergency heat receptacle (The 240volt-50A RV to twin 120volt 20A adapter provides a 20A circuit breaker for each outlet, so the 20A power is still protected). Next, I will use the 20 foot male plug end (left after the cuts) to power a weatherproof 20A dual gang receptacle box and the 10 foot female plug end with a male plug added as a short extension for my power tools. All the reviews about heating up at full capacity are out the window, as I expect no warranty and I'm confident that the cables I have are fully adequate for my usage. If they ever heat up, I'll cut them off and replace the ends. ... show more
